Additional Position Details This position works closely with staff and students to create service opportunities at school and in the larger community. The Community Service Coordinator builds long-term relationships with other organizations in order to provide ongoing opportunities for students. This person also helps to organize large events both in school and in the community that students are part of. Job Description COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATOR REPORTS TO: Department or School Administrator Position Purpose Coordinate a District program that may involve recruiting, promoting and training of volunteers, staff and community as well as providing program support to District staff. Produce and maintain records and reports. Nature & Scope Performs work of a varied nature in accordance with established policies, practices and guidelines under general supervision. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Contributes to the design and organization of District programs involving relationships between the community and school district. • Coordinates the development, implementation and assessment of District programs by recruiting interested businesses and agencies, encouraging business-school connections, providing staff training and generally promoting transition and volunteer relationships between schools and business. • Assures accurate and up to date program information by developing program materials, plans, brochures, handbooks, posters, and the like. • Provides assistance to school based career transition or volunteer programs by working with teachers, administrators and business leaders and identifying resources, clarifying state regulations, assisting with grant applications, and general problem solving. • Represents and promotes the District by maintaining relations with the business community and speaks to community groups and organizations. Serves on area wide committees and consortiums relating to careers or volunteerism. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: • Coordinates outside requests regarding program information and/or on-site visits. • Provides assistance to staff members by supplying information about classroom speakers, activities and resources; organizes resource materials. • Assists in budget preparation and monitors budget expenditures. • Maintains records and prepares reports related to the work. • Provides back-up support to other staff in case of absence or work overload. • Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed indoors. Some travel may be involved in the work. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of the local business community. • Knowledge of the schools’ career transition and volunteer programs. • Knowledge of effective methods and practices related to volunteer programs, and career-related learning. • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the general public using tact, courtesy and good judgment. • Ability to analyze data from a variety of perspectives. • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, policies and procedures. • Ability to prepare and develop effective information. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, representatives of outside agencies and the general public. • Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including, but not limited to being able to travel to business locations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
