Position Title: Senior Vice President, Head of Communications Department: Communications Job Type: Full-time, Exempt Job Location: Washington, DC Salary Range: $300,000 - $400,000 annually Reports to: Chief Public Affairs Officer Mission of Organization: The Bank Policy Institute (BPI) is a nonpartisan public policy, research and advocacy group, representing the nation’s leading banks. Our members include universal banks, regional banks and the major foreign banks doing business in the United States. BPI staff includes economists, financial analysts and attorneys, all focused on using data and economic analysis to shape sound public policy. We distribute our research and analysis to U.S. and global financial regulators, members of Congress, academics and media through academic-quality research papers, blog posts, white papers, comment letters, and Congressional testimony. Position Summary: The Senior Vice President, Head of Communications is the organization’s lead spokesperson responsible for liaising with reporters and third parties, leading the communications team and executing comprehensive communications strategies that advance the organization’s advocacy and policy objectives. This role reports to the Chief Public Affairs Officer and collaborates closely with the Head of Government Affairs and the Executive Team. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: • Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies and campaigns in partnership with the executive team to support advocacy, research and policy goals. • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization; oversee media relations, including outreach, interview coordination and cultivating relationships with journalists. • Manage the creation and distribution of public-facing materials, such as press releases, blog posts, research briefs and one-pagers, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational goals. • Develop relationships with third party validators to improve collaboration and further BPI’s objectives. • Build and maintain strong relationships with member banks’ corporate communications teams and external partners. • Identify and secure opportunities for media exposure, including podcasts, radio, TV appearances, webinars and panel discussions. • Plan and execute media roundtables, salon dinners and other stakeholder events to promote strategic objectives. • Publicizes BPI subject matter experts to enhance BPI’s reputation as a trust source on bank policy. • Manage the department’s budget and develop and enforce organization-wide communications policies. • Provide ongoing media training for staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • 8+ years of experience writing in a demanding fast-paced environment (journalism, Capitol Hill or public relations experience preferred). • In-depth knowledge of prudential banking regulations. • Proven track record of crafting compelling, high-visibility public-facing materials. • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a focus on clarity, precision, and impact. • Strong networking abilities and experience building relationships with media and industry contacts. • Collaborative, idea-driven and proactive in problem-solving and innovation. • Professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with senior executives and external stakeholders • Highly trustworthy with sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information. This is a Washington, DC-based position. The successful candidate generally will be expected to work in the DC office Monday-Thursday, with remote work option on Fridays.
