What You Will Contribute: The Sales Engineer – Water Quality Solutions plays a key role in connecting Badger Meter’s industry‑leading water quality technologies with the needs of municipal and utility customers. This role bridges technical expertise with customer engagement, ensuring communities receive reliable, accurate, and innovative solutions that improve water quality, system visibility, and operational efficiency. The Sales Engineer combines a deep understanding of Badger Meter’s water quality, smart water, and digital monitoring products with the ability to translate customer challenges into effective, data‑driven solutions. Working closely with the sales organization, this role supports both pre‑sales and post‑sales activities, guiding customers through product selection, system implementation, optimization, and long‑term performance. This position is Remote, the successful candidate must live in the Eastern Time Zone. There will be a 70% travel requirement. Essential Job Duties Technical & Customer-Focused Solution Design Collaborate with the sales team to assess customer needs and design technical solutions that support water quality monitoring, regulatory compliance, and system performance. Lead product demonstrations, deliver technical presentations, and assist with solution architecture during pre‑sales engagements. Support post‑sale activities including installation guidance, product optimization, on‑site configuration, and technical training to ensure solution success. Product Expertise & Industry Insights Maintain expert‑level knowledge of Badger Meter’s water quality sensors, digital platforms, smart metering technologies, and related hardware/software offerings. Stay informed on water quality standards, municipal regulations, and emerging technologies to ensure customers receive forward‑looking, compliant solutions. Customer Engagement & Field Support Work directly with municipalities, utilities, and consulting engineers to understand the technical challenges faced in water quality management and system operations. Provide hands‑on support during installation, troubleshooting, calibration, and optimization of water quality and networked monitoring systems. Proposal & Bid Support Prepare accurate technical proposals, bid documentation, and RFP responses that align with customer requirements and industry standards. Ensure technical content reflects Badger Meter’s capabilities and value propositions. Training & Knowledge Sharing Conduct training for internal teams, channel partners, and customers on product functionality, data interpretation, and system maintenance. Mentor team members on water quality technologies and application best practices. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Application Support teams to ensure proposed solutions are technically sound and feasible. Partner on complex projects and new product launches that require water quality and utility market expertise. Industry Representation Represent Badger Meter at water‑focused industry events, trade shows, and technical seminars. Serve as a trusted technical ambassador, showcasing Badger Meter’s commitment to reliable water quality monitoring and environmental stewardship. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Information Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in technical sales, engineering, water quality instrumentation, or roles supporting municipal water/wastewater or utility operations. Experience with water quality sensors, SCADA integration, smart water technologies, or industrial monitoring systems highly preferred. Qualifications Proficiency with CRM tools, technical presentation software, and documentation systems. Strong understanding of water quality regulatory requirements, sampling methods, sensor technology, and municipal utility workflows. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences. Able to work independently in a field‑oriented environment; comfort with both hands‑on product interaction and customer engagement. Willingness to travel up to 70% to support customer visits, installations, training, and industry events.
