Job Details Job Location Resources Center - Burbank, CA Position Type Temporary - Full Time Salary Range $25.00 - $27.00 Hourly Description POSITION SUMMARY The Conservation Technician will assist with preventive conservation efforts for the permanent collection, including our extensive Native American collection under the stewardship of the Autry Museum. This is a full-time, temporary position with a limited term of six months. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Assess the condition and clean, with a HEPA-filtered vacuum, collection items post-anoxia or post-low temperature treatment. Work with the Permanent Collections staff to coordinate the movement of collection items in and out of the conservation labs. • Identify pests and record the data in an Excel spreadsheet. • Assist with regular inspections of pest traps • Assist conservators with nitrogen anoxia treatment of collection items. Document the anoxia treatment through written reports, photography, and updates to the collections database. • Download environmental data from dataloggers, ensuring the files are properly named and archived. Maintain dataloggers as needed. OTHER FUNCTIONS • Perform other duties as assigned. The Autry Reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • A bachelor's degree in Art of Cultural heritage Conservation, Museum Studies, or similar field of study. • Experience with handling collection items, condition assessments, and writing conservation or condition reports is required. • Prior experience in preventive conservation of a museum collection is preferred. • Exemplary communication skills and self-awareness, with an emphasis on collaboration, teamwork, and reaching out to conservators for further instructions when needed. • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction, paying particular attention to details, accuracy, and proper protocols. • Highly motivated and able to take initiative, with the ability to use project management software and calendars to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage time. WORKING CONDITIONS • Standing or walking 2-4 hours at a time, up to 8 hours per day. • Sitting with frequent stooping and bending 2-4 hours at a time, up to 8 hours per day. • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 35 pounds and carrying them up to 10 feet. • Must have physical mobility and stamina to complete tasks that involve long periods of intense concentration • Work in low indoor temperatures.
