Overview The Senior Risk & Compliance Engineer - Privacy at Atlassian will be instrumental in implementing and managing the company’s privacy compliance strategy within the broader GRC framework. This role requires deep expertise in privacy regulations, data protection, and privacy risk management, as well as the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across Atlassian, including Security, Engineering, Legal, Product, and Compliance teams. The Senior Risk & Compliance Program Manager - Privacy plays a key role in maintaining Atlassian’s strong privacy posture, managing privacy risks, and supporting leadership in making privacy-informed decisions. The person should understand the business deeply and collaborate with different teams to ensure that privacy compliance and governance are integrated into all aspects of the organization. Responsibilities Deliver privacy compliance expertise and innovation, providing guidance to teams and promoting the adoption of industry-leading privacy methodologies to ensure privacy by design and by default. Drive solutions in privacy governance, risk, and compliance management. Leverage data analytics and visualization, deriving actionable insights from privacy compliance data. Utilize visualization tools to present complex privacy metrics and trends in an understandable manner, aiding strategic decision-making and enhancing the organization’s privacy posture. Promote automation and tooling, encouraging the use of the latest privacy compliance tools to enhance privacy processes, equipping teams with the necessary resources to maintain compliance by default. Proactively identify and mitigate privacy risks, recognizing potential privacy compliance gaps or regulatory concerns, and developing comprehensive strategies to address them effectively. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, implementing privacy controls and best practices to ensure a cohesive approach to privacy risk and compliance management. Regularly evaluate and report, assessing the effectiveness of privacy controls to ensure continuous improvement and rapid adaptation to the latest privacy regulatory developments. Influence and align stakeholders, working with business leaders and stakeholders to drive alignment on privacy initiatives, ensuring privacy and compliance considerations are integrated into business decisions. Stay informed on privacy regulatory awareness and compliance, keeping up with the latest developments in privacy legislation, regulatory, and industry requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, APPI) to ensure Atlassian’s practices and controls remain compliant and mitigate potential legal and reputational risks. Qualifications 7+ years’ experience in a privacy, data protection, or compliance role, preferably in a large-scale SaaS/Product environment Expertise and experience working in privacy compliance-focused roles Experience with privacy regulatory compliance, especially in technology or SaaS environments (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, APPI, LGPD) Experience in privacy risk management and governance frameworks Experience providing SME knowledge and guidance to stakeholders and business functions on privacy matters Experience working with internal/external audit, legal, and leadership teams Solid knowledge of privacy compliance principles, risk management strategies, and IT governance frameworks Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels and explain complex privacy concepts in an understandable way Relevant certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or similar would be beneficial Experience with privacy impact assessments, data mapping, and privacy by design practices Benefits & Perks Atlassian offers a wide range of perks and benefits designed to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community.
