Extensive experience in insurance product development, underwriting, or claims, with a focus on commercial property and casualty lines, and a relevant degree or professional certification.
Function The Product Development and Innovation function is a critical pillar of our underwriting success framework, ensuring that all policy forms, endorsements, and contract language are current, clear, unambiguous, and accurately reflect underwriting intent. This function owns the enterprise forms library and the end-to-end forms change function and serves as the forms subject-matter experts for the organization, providing governance, consistency, and control across the portfolio. In addition, the Product Development and Innovation function proactively identifies coverage gaps and emerging exposure trends at the segment level, enabling the creation of differentiated offerings and the exploitation of profitable product niches. Through continuous innovation in product design and wording, this function supports sustainable growth while strengthening underwriting discipline and market responsiveness. Role The Head of Product Development and Innovation will be responsible for designing and executing the company’s product development and product management strategy, working closely with counterparts across IT, Actuarial, Claims, and Underwriting to deliver against business objectives. This role will serve as the firm’s subject-matter expert across all policy forms, endorsements, and contract language, and will own the enterprise forms library and the end-to-end forms change function, ensuring consistency, accuracy, governance, and control across the portfolio. On a daily basis, the Head of Product Development and Innovation will partner with underwriters to review policy and contract wording (both follow and lead forms), draft manuscript endorsements, and ensure underwriting intent is reflected in clear, unambiguous language. The role will also advise on claims coverage issues, pricing considerations, and underwriting best practices, while leading initiatives to modify, enhance, and innovate product forms in response to evolving exposures and market needs. In addition, this position will drive continuous improvement and innovation across product wording and form architecture, proactively identifying opportunities to modernize coverage, improve usability, and support profitable product niches. The role will partner closely with IT to test, validate, and implement form builds and changes, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and disciplined change management within our systems. This position reports to the Chief Underwriting Officer. Forms Development and Management · Build, curate, and support updates to the Ategrity Forms library. · Review forms to ensure they are current and underwriting intent is reflected in, clear and unambiguous policy and endorsement wording. · Identify the need for new proprietary policy and endorsement forms, and work with keys teams in the development of those forms. · Provide expertise in analyzing bureau form changes defining possible options to support the requested changes and clearly identifying the impact · Oversee product development project management and timelines to ensure organization is executing against agreed product development accountabilities · Maintain and execute quality assurance process to ensure that policy and endorsement wording match underwriting intent. Underwriting Enablement · Drive coverage certainty by establishing and ensuring adherence to policy wording guidelines and review processes. · Review and approve XS terms that are based on other insurers’ standard policy forms. · Advise on adjustments to terms and pricing as it pertains to complex accounts and referrals · Draft manuscript policies and endorsements as required to address client-specific exposures. · Working closely with the Head of Underwriting Excellence, provide and create training opportunities for underwriting staff to help them better understand the importance of policy and endorsement wording. Innovation and Change Management · Participate in and lead continuous improvement and learning efforts, including deep-dive analytics, process improvement, and change management · Provide guidance and strategic insight on the development and issuance of insurance products by monitoring industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging innovations to inform product design and evolution. Disseminate learning via UW bulletin and training to provide underwriters with direction and insight on exposure trend as it pertains to policy and endorsement wording and usage. Qualifications · Bachelor’s Degree, Juris Doctor Degree or CPCU a plus · 5-8 years insurance experience in product development process and overall product knowledge based on relevant insurance experience in product development, claims or underwriting in Commercial Property and Casualty lines
