Job Title: Substation Relay Technician Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: $60,000 - $90,000 Relocation: Open Relocation Assistance: Open for discussion Must Haves • 3+ years relay testing & substation commissioning experience (15kV through to 500kV) • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for sponsorship. • Ability to drive and travel to client utility sites across the US, with overnight stays. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel & Word. Preferred Qualifications: • Relay testing expertise onsite with utilities • System checks, wiring checking & functioning • Full-lifecycle commissioning and testing experience of substations • Troubleshooting & problem analysis of protection equipment • Apparatus testing & analysis using Double Protection, ProTest, AcSELerator or Renoserv • Substation lightning stroke shielding plan and grounding plan experience • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to lead and hold meetings with utility clients • Must have an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or the educational and/or experience related equivalent; • Must have demonstrated significant electrical and mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with small, delicate, and complex equipment; • Must be able to analyze electrical control and protection problems and be accurate in his work; About The Company The company consults, engineers, installs, and maintains critical infrastructure, communications and mesh systems across the United States for government and private sector clients. Job Duties • Install, test, maintain, repair, and operate substation and power plant equipment, including relays, breakers, transformers, and control systems. • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance using specialized test equipment. • Test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust protective relays and regulating apparatus. • Conduct inspections, switching operations, and complete required reports and records. • Assist with commissioning, new installations, and circuit identification. • Add, remove, and modify wiring in AC and DC distribution and control circuits. • Utilize hand and power tools for construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities. • Gain familiarity with substation circuits, equipment, relay schemes, and testing methods. • Complete job skill demonstrations and progression requirements for advancement to Substation Relay Tester.
