The Role We're looking for someone to be the right hand to Wefunder's founder & CEO. You'll report directly to Nick, master how the operation works today, and position it for serious growth as regulation opens up. This isn't a caretaker role. You'll set the direction, drive urgency, and keep us profitable — all while staying lean. We'd rather ship smarter with AI, automation, and great product than hire our way out of problems. If it goes well, you'll step into the CEO seat for the Retail division within 12 to 18 months. Full ownership — strategy, culture, growth. The whole thing. Location & Culture We're strong believers in an in-person culture. Our HQ is in San Francisco — we have two offices, one in the Mission and one in Seacliff with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We're a small team of ~30 that hires carefully. In this new AI world, one star can outcompete 10 average people. Proven operator Experience leading high-impact teams in fast-changing environments, ideally within marketplaces, fintech, or other complex, regulated industries. Senior executive background with demonstrated exposure to capital raising and investor engagement is strongly preferred. Over the past few years, we've helped fund over 1,000 pre-IPO startups with $500M+, from early-stage moonshots to unicorns. In 2021, regulatory reform put Community Rounds on the map - and since then, we’ve helped Substack, Mercury, Levels, and thousands of other startups raise money from their customers and community. There will be many events that occur that will require clear communication with founders, such as tax requirements, event updates for investors, etc. You will help founders with investor communications to ensure post-funding related activities are well coordinated. Handle taxes. Manage 150+ SPVs as well as taxable events for our funds every year. This will require meticulous management of all parties involved - from founders, to our team, to external CPAs. Manage post-funding events. Ensure smooth post-funding processes. M&As, follow on financings, failures, etc. happen all the time. Not all founders/investors are familiar with such processes. You will be there to help founders and investors navigate these events. Analyze and validate portfolio company investment data. Help improve the portfolio view that allows investors see how their investments are doing. Be the internal champion for founders and investors after raising on Wefunder. Advocate for them, empathize with them, set clear expectations for them. Skills & Experience: Incredible attention to detail. You understand how contracts work and make sure key intricacies are not overlooked. Quick learner/curious. You learn very quickly and have an innate curiosity to dive deeper. You will need to learn how funds work in the crowdfunding world. Initiative, drive, and urgency to solve problems. You will solve issues and develop systems to do it faster over time. You’ll leave your mark on how we do things and grow with the company. Ruthless prioritization. You will be the primary point person for founders as they go through the crazy process of fundraising on top of having dozens of competing priorities. You know how to get things done while also building for the future. Excellent communication. You can code-switch between building rapport with CEOs, alleviating concerns from skeptical CFOs, discussing valuations with investors, and fielding questions from diligent attorneys. Ability to thrive in ambiguity. You’re comfortable learning quickly and asking a lot of questions. You prefer being thrown in the deep end. You aspire to learn every small detail about the fundraising process. You’re extremely accountable and reliable. If you say you’ll do something, you’ll get it done. Have experience with Fund Operations (preferred). Experience with fund management and taxes is preferred for this job.
