We are looking for a proven communications professional who is keen to take initiative and contribute to the high performing, award-winning YVR Communications Team, which is responsible for promoting, protecting, and enhancing YVR's reputation and advancing our strategic plan in service of the community and economy that supports it. Position overview We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Senior Communications Specialist - Media Relations & Issues Management. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you are a strategic and collaborative communicator who will play a central role in shaping and delivering YVR's public voice, sharing our story with key audiences. Working closely with internal teams and external partners you will manage media relations, guide external communications strategy, and ensure our messaging reflects YVR's priorities, community role, and economic impact. Key responsibilities include: • Collaborate with various internal departments, government agencies, and stakeholders to develop strategic media relations plans that work to secure positive earned media coverage for all YVR initiatives • Lead YVR media events including plan development, event concept, logistics, stakeholder management (business partners, agencies) and/or coordinate with various levels of government to organize media events and announcements • Coordinate inbound local, national, international, and trade media requests as well as identifying proactive media opportunities • Act as spokesperson for the Airport Authority, as required • Assume a role as a key member of YVR's Communications Operations Centre in the event of breaking/evolving issues, including outside of regular office hours • Develop and implement response strategies for irregular operations, operational disruptions and reputational risk • Provide strategic communications and media counsel to internal teams in support of YVR's strategic plan and priorities • Develop key messages and write quotes for the CEO and other senior leaders for inclusion in YVR and partner content • Oversee and maintain YVR's Newsroom, ensuring the editorial voice of the organization is reflected and consistent in all content Key qualifications include: • Minimum of five years' relevant experience in communications with an agency or corporate environment, supported by a two-year post-secondary certificate or diploma in Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience • Expertise in project management, client services delivery, and event execution • Proven leadership skills in conflict resolution, trend analysis, and decision-making, with the ability to diplomatically lead meetings and provide strategic counsel to colleagues • Excellent English writing skills (vocabulary, spelling, mechanics), with a comprehensive working knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) style • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building relationships, managing expectations, and confidently providing strategic counsel to leadership This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Readiness and Delivery is an integral part of the organization that provides operational perspective and integrated coordination during all stages of the passenger journey, ensuring operational business continuity of the airport by managing impacts and mitigating risks associated with planned disruptions. To do this, we collaborate with many operational program teams, external partners, and subject matter experts, bringing the right people together to make the right decisions at the right time to ensure operational project delivery. Position overview Are you a positive self-starter interested in supporting change in a dynamic and changing environment? We have an exciting and dynamic opportunity for a full-time term (to March 2027) Terminal Coordinator (Terminal Operations Delivery) to join our Readiness and Delivery team. Reporting to the Manager, Terminal Operations (Readiness and Delivery), the successful candidate will focus on the readiness of the staff, systems, equipment, and processes related to terminal projects and/or programs and/or activities. Understand the requirements, plan, conduct preparation activities, implement change management processes, and monitor progress to deliver on terminal operations priorities. Communication and critical thinking are important skills to ensure disruption to the airport's stakeholders and operating environment is minimized. Key responsibilities include: • Support in the implementation and coordination of terminal activities and programs that enable the safe, seamless, optimized, and cost-efficient flow of passengers, bags and planes through the airport. • Day-to-day coordination to ensure facility or operational process changes are aligned with current practices, mitigate operational impact, and incorporate future needs. • Lead data collection, audits, performance monitoring, and reporting activities to improve service delivery, and increase visibility into the live operation. • Lead integrated operational trials to ensure that all facilities, systems, and equipment, and staff are operationally ready. • Engage in regular communication with internal departments and external stakeholders to promote alignment, balance the needs of groups with competing priorities, and integrate operational readiness including leading meetings and delivering presentations. • Develop operational procedures, briefings, and training, to achieve desired outcomes. • Develop contingency plans and manage service delivery change management for irregular operations or planned activities that impact passenger flow within the terminal building. Key qualifications include: • Five years recent experience working in airport planning, operational research or application of statistical techniques and simulation modelling, supplemented by at least 2 years of post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Business, Operations or Logistics; or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience. • Lean Six Sigma designation or familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, Change Management, or Project Management concepts would be an asset • Proven strong analytical abilities to interpret and present complex data from interdependent sources where cause and effect implications require careful assessment. • Proven ability to formulate decisions often without established guidelines. • Leadership skills with proven relationship building, facilitation, and negotiation experience. • Excellent computer skills and proven competency with Microsoft Office 365 programs including SharePoint. • Strong communication and written communication skills Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers.
