Lead legislative strategy, advocate for policies, track legislation, and coordinate advocacy efforts. | Extensive experience in legislative advocacy, familiarity with DC government, coalition building, and policy engagement. | Legislative Director Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington DC (TLA-DC) Fully Remote | Full-Time (Part-Time Considered) The Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan DC (TLA-DC) seeks a Legislative Director to serve as a senior advocacy leader advancing and protecting the civil justice system in the District of Columbia. This role is ideal for a seasoned legislative professional who believes deeply in access to justice, accountability for wrongdoing, and the role of trial lawyers in protecting the public. Substantial experience navigating the Wilson Building as a staffer or lobbyist is required. The Legislative Director represents TLA-DC before policymakers, coalition partners, and the broader legal community, and works closely with volunteer attorney leaders to shape and advance the organization’s legislative priorities. About TLA-DC TLA-DC represents more than 450 trial attorneys throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The association advocates for the preservation of the civil justice system, the protection of consumers and injured people, and the professional development of its members. Key Responsibilities • Lead TLA-DC’s legislative strategy before the DC Council and other local decision-makers. • Advocate for laws and policies that protect the civil justice system and injured people.-Track legislation at all stages and engage directly with elected officials and staff. • Support and expand member participation in legislative advocacy. • Coordinate testimony, written advocacy, and coalition engagement. What Success In the Role Looks Like • Passage or defeat of priority legislation. • Increased member engagement. • Improved legislative visibility. • Strong coalition coordination. • Clear communication with the Board.
