The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-level environment. This is a one-year, full-time fellowship. Job Duties: • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Media and Public Relations team, including maintaining press lists, supervising media clipping and reports, managing projects, and conducting research. • Manage Heritage's press lists and databases of TV and print mentions. • Clip TV appearances by Heritage experts and manage their distribution to the Communications, Development, and relevant policy departments. • Assist the Director and Assistant Director in creating weekly, quarterly, and annual reports on Heritage's media presence. • Research and propose new communications ideas, strategies, and best practices to ensure the department is innovative and operating efficiently and effectively. • Under the supervision of the Director, write, edit, and post communications content, including talking points, press releases, statements, messaging documents, and media pitches for distribution internally and externally. • Support the department's media training program, as needed. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree preferred Experience: Past public relations or journalism internships preferred Communication: Excellent verbal, writing, and editing skills Technology: Microsoft Suite; Meltwater experience a plus Other Requirements: • Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department's goals and objectives. • Promote policies consistent with Heritage's priorities; speak with one voice. • Possess excellent organizational, planning, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. • Hard working, resourceful, and creative with the ability to meet tight deadlines. • Knowledge of AP Style; strong eye for detail and command of spelling and grammar. Benefits and Salary: The salary for this role is $55,000 annually. As a temporary position, this role is eligible for some of The Heritage Foundation's benefits package, including "take what you need" PTO and sick leave.
Research, analyze, and communicate trade policy impacts through reports, events, and media engagements. | Requires 5+ years in public policy or research, with strong communication skills and understanding of trade law and economic theory. | Title: Jay Van Andel Senior Policy Analyst in Trade Policy Reports to: Director, Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies Job Summary: The Jay Van Andel Senior Policy Analyst in Trade Policy is responsible for examining and communicating the impact of trade levels, tariffs, and trade agreements on American well-being—with a particular sensitivity to U.S. exposure to threats from foreign adversaries, especially the People’s Republic of China. This position requires a thorough familiarity with Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, and the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) (50 U.S.C. § 1701–1708) among other relevant trade laws. The position requires comprehensive understanding of all trade-related executive orders, presidential memoranda, and pending trade legislation. The Senior Policy Analyst must have a command of free market economic theory and be able to discern and analyze the economic effects (e.g., labor, GDP, inflation) and non-economic effects (e.g., social, cultural, national security, familial) of tariffs and non-tariff barriers. The Senior Policy Analyst strengthens Heritage’s reputation in the conservative movement by producing scholarly research, policy papers, commentary, and op-eds, testifying before government bodies, frequent public speaking and media engagements, and by participating in and leading private meetings and conferences concerning trade policy. Job Duties: Research and write policy papers, studies, public comments on regulations, reports, and commentaries. Help formulate content and agenda for policy working groups and in-house and external meetings and events. Organize and execute events and meetings relating to trade policy issues. Promote public research through speaking engagements, private meetings, podcasts, and conferences. Conduct local, regional, and national media interviews. Collaborate with others across Heritage and in other organizations to achieve Heritage objectives. Represent Heritage in a variety of settings, including public events, conferences, legislative meetings or hearings, and other public forums. Qualifications: Education: M.A. or acquisition of equivalent level of technical and research skills Experience: 5+ years’ experience in public policy or research Communication: Clear, cogent writer and effective public speaker Technology: Microsoft Suite, specifically data analysis functions Other Requirements: Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department’s goals and objectives. Strong grasp of international trade theory and its policy applications and economic and non-economic effects. Ability to critically analyze data and information in a fast-paced environment. Perform top-quality research, analysis, writing, and publication, with emphasis on accuracy, insightfulness, and timeliness. Provide significant contributions to the public policy debate that effect policy changes or preservation. Work well in a team and show potential to lead others. High level of professionalism. Self-starter who takes initiative and is entrepreneurial. The salary range for this role is $115,000 - $135,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
