Assist in exploratory data analysis, data cleaning, and visualization to support projects related to national security and trade. | Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, basic programming skills in Python, foundational SQL skills, and strong communication skills. | ASHBURN, VA – Data Analyst (Junior) SDA seeks a motivated, career-oriented Junior Data Analyst to join our innovative team in Ashburn, VA. This is a hybrid position with some remote work. Every day, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) manages the enormous flow of people, capital, and products entering and leaving the United States by air, land, sea, and cyberspace. To meet the complexity and scale of these operations, SDA partners with CBP to apply modern data and analytics solutions that help ensure efficient trade and safe travel. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career analyst who is eager to grow their technical skills while contributing to projects that have a direct impact on national security. Responsibilities (including but are not limited to): • Assist in exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies. • Support data preparation efforts, including extracting, cleaning, and transforming data for analysis. • Work with senior analysts and data scientists to develop and document analytical approaches and predictive models. • Apply basic statistical and analytical techniques to support project goals. • Help build reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to mission stakeholders. • Collaborate with technical teams and mission users to understand business problems and contribute to solutions. • Research information as needed to support ongoing projects. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (internships, coursework, or projects in data analysis strongly considered). • 0–2 years of professional experience in data analytics or related roles. • Basic proficiency in at least one programming language for analysis (Python, R, or similar). • Foundational SQL skills for querying and working with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, Postgres). • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly. Preferred Qualifications (not required): • Familiarity with statistical modeling or basic machine learning concepts (through coursework or projects). • Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Python visualization libraries). • Experience working with large datasets or in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). • Understanding of data profiling, entity resolution, or name matching is a plus. • Exposure to Agile development or teamwork in collaborative environments. Customer Requirements • Clearance – DHS/CBP or be eligible to obtain one. • U.S. Citizenship - Candidates will be required to have U.S. Citizenship.
