This internship will begin on June 1, 2026, and continue through Summer 2027. Interns must be located in New York State or an immediately adjacent state while working. This position is open to candidates based in Albany, New York City, or Buffalo, with a preference for candidates located in the Albany area. It is expected that interns will follow our telework policy, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Interns work up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester, and up to 37.5 hours per week between semesters, when not attending classes. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Identify software tools and structure for a database that catalogs thermal energy networks projects, leverage case studies to develop and populate the database, and query the database to identify trends and data gaps. * Perform market research and tracking of trends in the building energy space, such as cost trends, and other research and support tasks as assigned. Collaborate on cross-team projects and coordination of key buildings data sets across internal teams and business units at NYSERDA used for research * Communicate results of data projects to a diversity of audiences MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Currently progressing towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in data science, building science, engineering or related field. * Interest in building decarbonization * Strong data analysis and data visualization skills (e.g., Tableau or PowerBI). Experience with programming language (e.g., Python or SQL). * Prior experience developing and querying databases including both quantitative and qualitative data.
