Work Arrangement The role is hybrid and required to work from Method’s hub office in San Francisco, California, at least two days per week. The Opportunity Method Communications is looking for a Director of Earned and New Media Strategy who doesn't just follow B2B tech media landscape —you help shape it. You'll architect earned media strategies for the companies defining the future: enterprise software giants, cutting-edge fintech disruptors, cybersecurity innovators, workplace transformation leaders, and the VCs funding tomorrow's unicorns. Beyond client work, you'll be supporting the future of the Earned and New Media Specialist Group. As a leader and mentor at Method, you'll shape the next generation of earned media strategists and continuously evolve our robust internal training program—ensuring our entire team stays ahead of an industry. Reporting to the EVP, Earned and New Media, the role will be located in San Francisco. Some client travel and travel to other Method offices will be required. You'll work alongside former journalists and top-tier earned media strategists who get it—the future of B2B influence isn't in press releases, it's in conversations. Together, you'll map emerging voices, stay ahead of the curve on new platforms, and continue to build relationships that matter. This Goes Beyond Traditional PR As an internal consultant, you'll spend your days doing what you do best—living and breathing earned media strategy. You'll be a go-to expert our account teams turn to when they need to crack a tough story, navigate a crisis, or identify the perfect journalist for a breakthrough moment. Instead of being spread across general PR tasks, you'll dive deep into earned media every single day—analyzing coverage patterns, mapping emerging influencer networks, identifying the latest new media platforms (think Substacks, podcasts, influencers, and Reddit), and staying three steps ahead of industry evolution. You're not just another account lead; you're a trusted earned media advisor who helps elevate client storytelling across our roster. Responsibilities Program and Campaign Development and Management • Develop, plan, and execute media campaigns from start to finish, including goal-setting, planning, implementation, measurement, reporting and evaluation with excellent attention to detail • Integrate digital, social, and traditional media into campaign development • Develop media strategies that inform program ideas, craft angles, oversee tactics and execute both on site and off site at meetings • Coach spokespeople, staff briefings and advise on media trends to a high standard • Lead team brainstorming sessions, as well as partner with internal leadership to ensure best outcomes for clients Media • Attend media networking events to expand the agency’s reach • Conceptualize, organize and execute media events on behalf of the agency • Use deep relationships and experience to pitch reporters across vertical segments and develop strong written content • Able to review and provide guidance on media requests, briefing books and backgrounders, and actively identify new reporters and storylines that make sense for the client • Develop media pitching strategies and coach account teams to pitch stories confidently and successfully • Handle crisis situations with media, including diffusing situations with journalists and getting honest feedback from reporters on pitch angles • Able to identify other influencers that would be beneficial for our clients Business Development • Promote continual growth and learning through new client experiences • When appropriate, initiate tough conversations with clients and provide feedback to management • Identify HWB media opportunities and media strategies for organic growth • Actively leverage existing relationships for business development and participate in new business pitches Agency Leadership • Work closely with internal teams on internal and external media initiatives • Contribute and support the continuous improvement of systems, practices and policies ensuring they underpin our Company culture • Play an active role in knowledge sharing and develop initiatives that help shape the future direction of the company • Act as a mentor for designated direct reports, identifying goals and providing guidance and feedback on performance during coaching sessions • Deliver constructive feedback to ensure level requirements are met and the correct action is taken, where necessary • Participate in office activities • Have a strong, positive presence within the agency What We’re Looking For • 8-10 years experience in a media relations role or with a media relations focus; agency experience preferred • 3+ years as a media expert in Enterprise, Fin-tech, Consumer Tech, etc. Additional expertise in AI, blockchain, and emerging tech is also preferred. • Excellent knowledge of, and relationships with, top tier national and international, influential media in at least one field (consumer, business, trade) in regional areas • Established relationships as a media counselor with clients, including C-suite executives • Strong understanding of and experience in the relationship between traditional public relations and the use of current online/digital technology and social media • Proven media placement in national outlets, including broadcast • Senior level management experience, and/or experience growing a practice area or agency • Strong editing and writing capabilities to teach media strategy across teams • Adaptable management style; fit to manage others and oversee multiple direct reports with different managerial requirements, working on both hard and soft skill development • Collaborative, team-oriented individual with a big-picture mindset • Passion for work and commitment to developing skills and helping team members learn on a daily basis Salary Ranges We believe all employees should be rewarded competitively and equitably, using practices that are simple and transparent. We’ve provided the following salary range based on state regulations.
