The Field Service Engineer will perform on-site repairs and preventative maintenance of laboratory instrumentation while providing technical support to clients. They will also assist in scheduling and performing new product installations and operator training at customer sites. | Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience servicing HPLC/UPLC systems and a strong knowledge of chromatography principles. Position Overview We are seeking a Field Service Engineer II with over 4+ years of specialized expertise in HPLC / UPLC systems including routine and incident-based instrument maintenance and repairs. Previous OEM or third-party service experience with Agilent 1100/1200/1260 Infinity, 1290 UPLC; Waters Alliance and Acquity UPLC; Shimadzu Prominence and Nexera platforms. Key Responsibilities, include, but not limited to Perform on-site repairs and preventative maintenance of laboratory instrumentation. Provide technical support via phone and email to clients. Coordinate with manager to escalate service calls if a customer remains down for more than 8 hours. Monitor and analyze preventive maintenance (PM) and service metrics to ensure high customer satisfaction and instrument performance. Assist in scheduling, coordinating, and performing new product installations, operator training, and assay validation activities at the customer site. Provide in-service training to customers on operations and general preventive maintenance as required when the pattern of service problems dictates. Interpret and troubleshoot using component block diagrams, assembly drawings, and wiring schematics. Ensure all service activities are documented in compliance with Quality System standards. Complete administrative duties including travel planning, expense reporting, and parts ordering. Education Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Engineering, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent experience. Experience Minimum of 4+ years of experience servicing HPLC/UPLC systems (Agilent, Waters, and Shimadzu required). This includes performing routine and incident-based instrumentation maintenance and repairs. Strong knowledge of chromatography principles and laboratory practices. Hands-on troubleshooting skills with mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues. Previous OEM or third-party service experience with Agilent 1100/1200/1260 Infinity, 1290 UPLC; Waters Alliance and Acquity UPLC; Shimadzu Prominence and Nexera platforms Familiarity with chromatography data systems (e.g., Empower/MassLynx, MassHunter, OpenLab ChemStation, LabSolutions). Provide remote phone support and onsite troubleshooting and maintenance guidance to internal team members as well as for clients. Serve as a senior point of contact for escalated technical issues and provide mentorship to junior FSEs. Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring prompt response, clear communication, and technical excellence. Coordinate and provide offsite and onsite installations of equipment. Document service calls accurately in the CRM system Evaluate and advise on laboratory space and upfitting requirements appropriate for selected instrumentation across client laboratories. Coordinate with and advise on vendors providing services for instrumentation. Maintain appropriate inventory of parts and tools to support efficient service delivery. Leading the tracking and completion of projects as directed. Completes all administrative duties, including but not limited to, expense reporting, parts ordering, and making travel arrangements. This position will require overnight travel with travel up to 80% of the time and requires a valid driver's license. Education Associate or Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences, Engineering, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related technical discipline. Experience Minimum of 8-10 years in industrial/clinical laboratory experience that included performing routine and incident-based instrumentation maintenance and repairs. This experience must include advanced knowledge of OEM platforms such as Beckman Coulter AU Series automated chemistry analyzers, Thermo Indiko, and Abbott BioLis ImmTox. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required. Experience with biological sample preparation is preferred but not required.
