Lead full scope of HR functions including talent management, compliance, compensation, multi-state payroll, and M&A integration. | Professional with HR strategy alignment, multi-state wage and hour law expertise, and ADP Workforce Now proficiency. | Job Summary The Human Resources Manager leads the full scope of the human resources function for Knight, a multi-state emergency services and property restoration company operating in a private equity-backed, high-growth environment. This role champions a values-driven workplace culture, partners with senior leadership to align HR strategy with business objectives, and oversees talent management, compliance, and compensation and benefits across the organization. The HR Manager also plays a key role in mergers and acquisitions, leading HR due diligence and post-acquisition integration to ensure smooth transitions for acquired teams. This position serves as a trusted advisor across all levels of the company, handling sensitive matters with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Culture & Engagement * Champion the development and maintenance of a strong values-driven workplace culture. * Develop and implement initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction. * Serve as a trusted advisor and cultural ambassador across all levels of the organization. * Drive culture initiatives including internal communications, recognition, and engagement efforts. Leadership & Strategy * Partner with senior leadership to align HR strategy with business objectives. * Lead and mentor HR staff, providing direction and development opportunities. * Act as a key contributor in change management efforts during private equity transitions and acquisitions. Talent Management * Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding to ensure a strong talent pipeline. * Oversee full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning to support company growth. * Implement performance management programs to foster high performance and accountability. * Support leadership development and succession planning. Compliance & Risk Management * Ensure HR policies and practices are compliant with all relevant employment laws and regulations. * Develop and enforce internal policies that mitigate risk and promote ethical practices. Compensation & Benefits * Oversee compensation structures, benefits administration, and employee recognition programs. * Partner with finance and private equity stakeholders to manage cost-effective yet competitive benefit offerings. Payroll Management * Oversee end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing in ADP Workforce Now across a multi-state workforce, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, every time. * Manage the integration of field time data into payroll, including dual-rate and California daily overtime and double-time calculations. * Ensure compliance with multi-state wage and hour requirements, including state-specific final pay rules, garnishments, and off-cycle payroll runs. * Oversee payroll-related benefits deductions, 401(k) contributions and compliance testing, and workers' compensation payroll reporting. * Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliation, labor cost reporting, and audit support.

Administer payroll, benefits, and HR operations ensuring compliance and managing ADP Workforce Now for a multi-state workforce. | 5-7 years HR, payroll, benefits experience with ADP Workforce Now and multi-state compliance knowledge, professional certification preferred. | HR, Payroll & Benefits Administrator Department: Human Resources Reports To: HR Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Employment: Full-Time Job Summary The HR, Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for the accurate and compliant administration of payroll, employee benefits, and core HR operations across a multi-state workforce. This role ensures employees are paid correctly and on time, benefits programs are administered effectively, and HR records and processes meet all applicable legal requirements. The Administrator serves as a trusted resource for employees on payroll and benefits matters, handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. Responsibilities Payroll * Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 150 employees in ADP Workforce Now — accurately, on time, every time. * Manage all pay changes including new hires, terminations, adjustments, commissions, garnishments, and deductions. * Maintain multi-state tax setup across all jurisdictions (SUI, SDI, local taxes); stay current on wage and hour compliance, nexus rules, and reciprocity agreements. * Reconcile payroll registers and resolve discrepancies before every pay run. * File all payroll tax returns (941, W-2, state equivalents) on time. * Own year-end processes including W-2 distribution, ACA/1094/1095 reporting, and full reconciliation. * Partner with Finance on journal entries, labor cost reporting, and audits. Benefits Administration * Administer health, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) plans across a multi-state workforce. * Manage benefits eligibility and enrollment in ADP; maintain accurate carrier feeds. * Run open enrollment end-to-end: communications, carrier coordination, employee decision support, and data entry. * Handle qualifying life events, COBRA notifications, and leave of absence benefits continuation. * Audit carrier invoices monthly and resolve billing discrepancies promptly. * Track ACA eligibility and measurement periods; coordinate 1094/1095 filings. * Review plan performance annually and bring recommendations to leadership. HR Administration * Maintain accurate, compliant records in ADP covering personal information, employment history, pay data, and documents. * Run onboarding in ADP including paperwork, I-9 verification (including remote workflows), background checks, and system access. * Execute offboarding with attention to state-specific final pay requirements, benefits termination, and COBRA. * Administer PTO accruals, FMLA, and state-specific leave laws. * Draft and maintain offer letters, agreements, and multi-state HR policies. * Stay current on FLSA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, and ERISA; flag compliance issues proactively. Employee Support * Respond to employee payroll and benefits questions promptly — same day whenever possible. * Communicate benefits options, leave rights, and policy changes in plain language. * Proactively notify employees about anything affecting their pay or benefits before they have to ask. * Handle sensitive matters with consistency, discretion, and professionalism. * Other special projects as assigned by HR Manager. Qualifications Required * 5–7 years of hands-on HR, payroll, and benefits administration experience. * Multi-state experience in higher-complexity states such as CA, NY, WA, or IL. * Direct working experience with ADP Workforce Now — ability to configure, troubleshoot, and operate it independently. * Demonstrated multi-state payroll experience with solid compliance knowledge. * Strong knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, ERISA, and state-level variations. * Benefits administration experience for a workforce of 100+ employees. * Proven track record of accuracy and meeting deadlines. * Clear, direct communicator who provides real answers and follows through. Preferred * PHR, SHRM-CP, or CPP certification. * Experience in commercial real estate, construction, or a project-based industry. * Familiarity with commission and variable-pay payroll structures. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: $65,000 – $85,000 depending on experience Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision Retirement: 401(k) with company match up to 4% Time Off: 15 days PTO + company holidays Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Measures of Success * Payroll processed accurately and on time for every pay cycle with zero unresolved discrepancies. * Benefits enrollment and carrier data maintained with a high degree of accuracy. * Employee payroll and benefits inquiries resolved promptly, with same-day response as the standard. * Full compliance with federal and state payroll, benefits, and HR regulations. * Year-end and ACA filings completed accurately and on schedule. * HR records and documentation maintained in a consistent, audit-ready state.
