Design, develop, validate, and implement predictive models for pricing and underwriting in insurance, leading projects and collaborating cross-functionally. | Advanced degree or 7+ years predictive modeling experience in insurance, 5+ years in data science modeling, expertise in SQL, R/Python, and predictive analytics tools, plus strong communication skills. | Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Scientist focused on predictive modeling to join our Actuarial team. This key technical position, reporting directly to the Data Science Senior Manager, encompasses the entire modeling lifecycle, including model design, data, development, validation, and implementation. In this role, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team, working with various functions within the Actuarial team and across departments to drive data-driven decision-making. This is a remote position working under EST business hours. Salary Range: $110,000 - $160,000 Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.; Kingstone does not currently sponsor individuals for employment-based visas. What you will do: • Design, build, and deploy pricing, underwriting, and customer demand models to continuously improve Kingstone’s profitability and growth. • Oversee end-to-end model development and application. • Lead modeling or data projects and guide junior data scientists. • Continuously refresh and enhance existing models. • Own data management for the modeling function, including data collection, integration, cleaning, processing and transformation. • Explore new data sources and analytical techniques to ensure competitive advantage. • Communicate analysis, insights, and results to team, business partners, and leaders. • Share expertise with the business and the actuarial community through discussions, presentations, or peer reviews to improve business outcomes. What you will bring: • An advanced degree in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of predictive modeling experience. • 5+ years of experience working in a data science modeling development position in the insurance field. • Experience working for a personal lines P&C insurance carrier, preferably with experience in the Homeowners business. • Expertise in Microsoft Office tools, SQL, and R or Python. • Hands-on modeling experience with large-scale datasets and a deep understanding of predictive modeling, data mining, and other quantitative and research analytics (Generalized Linear Models, Multivariate Analysis, Bayesian Methods, Non-Linear Models, Decision Trees, Parametric estimation, Machine learning techniques, etc.). • Intensive experience managing, processing and analyzing data for modeling purposes. • Industry expertise in predictive analytics tools, regression models, and software (preferably Earnix) is required. • Self-motivation and capability of independently and proactively advancing projects. • Strong willingness to learn and attention to detail. • Excellent communications skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills. • Collaborative strengths and ability to work as part of a team as well as cross-functionally. • Ability to develop and deliver communications for complex technical projects to non-technical audiences (appropriate audience, level of detail, urgency). The perfect candidate would have a passion for building and maintaining high quality ETL processes, database queries and reports, and API integrations that help answer the demands of a fast-growing company, would have proven problem solving and organizational skills, and would enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with a tight-knit and talented team. This is a remote position with occasional visits to our New York office as needed. Salary range: $105,000 - $140,000 What you will do: • Create and maintain ETL/ELT processes for the Data Warehouse. • Design, create and maintain tables, views, and stored procedures in the Data Warehouse and other databases. • Develop and maintain data migration and import/export utilities. • Collaborate with business units to surface data for reporting and analysis. • Create and optimize SQL queries; create and maintain data transformation processes in Azure Data Factory, C#, and Power Query/Power BI. • Integrate with third-party API specifications to import and export data. • Participate in development practices subject to DFS regulations. • Create documentation and participate in code reviews. What you will bring: Required • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent work experience. • Intermediate to advanced experience in writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex SQL queries. • Extensive experience with developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting database queries and objects on the Microsoft SQL Server platform. • Experience with Azure Data Factory and Power BI. • Some professional experience with C#. • Experience using source control tools, preferably GIT with VS Database Projects. • Familiarity with Agile development practices and work-tracking tools, such as Jira. • Experience working in a regulated environment with secure development practices (Sarbanes Oxley, NY-DFS, etc.). • Solid communication skills and ability to communicate with non-technical business stakeholders. Preferred • Knowledge of P&C Insurance industry, product, and rating. • Experience working with cloud data tools such as Azure Synapse and Data Lake Storage. • Experience working with CI/CD tools and processes. • Experience with ADO.Net, Dapper, and Entity Framework.
