Drive growth of solid waste services by acquiring and retaining clients, developing market strategies, and maintaining customer relations. | Bachelor's degree, 2-3 years sales experience, valid driver's license, strong communication skills, basic math and analytical skills. | GFL Environmental, Inc. is looking for a dynamic and results-driven Account Manager to drive the growth of our solid waste services within an assigned territory. This role will focus on promoting, selling, and retaining business from industrial and commercial clients, while identifying new market opportunities. The Account Manager will maintain strong relationships with existing customers and develop strategies to stay ahead of the competition. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for preparing sales contracts, incorporating knowledge of pricing, costs, and equipment, in collaboration with the Facility or General Manager. Base pay plus commission* Key Responsibilities: • Aggressively solicit orders from current and prospective customers to maintain and increase customer base. • Maintain good customer relations by traveling throughout assigned territory to meet with existing and prospective customers to assess and manage customer needs. • Compile and manage lists of prospective customers in the ACT database for use in sales leads through cold-calling and other techniques. • Penetrate new and existing market areas to maintain and increase sales and market share for assigned territories. • Develop working knowledge of branch/regional profit and loss components and dynamics including pricing service, calculating desired margins and cost of service. • Develop and maintain working knowledge of solid waste product and equipment pricing, costs and application to include roll-off presentation, commercial placement, front-end upgrade and full-line applications. • Provide price quotes and credit terms to potential customers and prepare sales contracts. Consult Sales Manager or Facility /General Manager prior to deviating from book rates. • Develop and exhibit proficiency in commercial placement, customer needs analysis, customer upgrades and customer retention and in identifying major industrial needs in the areas of compaction application including pricing, mechanical aptitude and service capabilities. • Demonstrate proficiency in preparation and organization of sales presentations to major accounts by effectively displaying and demonstrating products and services and emphasizing marketable features. • Maintain awareness of the activities of all competitors. • Assist with the identification and implementation of price increases for substandard accounts. • Perform waste stream analysis to include estimation of volumes and recognition of waste streams requiring special handling or which can be recycled or diverted. • Participate in business related meetings, conferences, social functions and civic organizations to boost the overall exposure of the Company. • Court, cultivate, secure and act as liaison between large customers, municipal and governmental sector business including bid invitations and preliminary bid preparation. • Assist in identifying acquisition candidates and participate in the acquisition of and merging with targeted businesses. • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Bachelor's degree from a four (4) year college or university • Knowledge or experience in solid waste industry desired. • Two (2) to three (3) years of sales experience with thorough knowledge of sales techniques. • Equivalent combination of education and experience. • Possess a valid driver's license. • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical journals or governmental regulations. • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. • Ability to create, design and implement solutions to general and customer specific problems. • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. • Ability to self-direct various assigned initiatives and to work under limited supervision. Physical/Mental Demands: • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and climb. • Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. • Possess ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transporting to post-collection facilities. Key Responsibilities: Drives a rear-load, split body, curotto, or automated-side load truck along designated routes to collect waste and take to post-collection facilities. As route conditions require, driver will assist helper(s) in loading solid waste into truck hopper. Utilize helpers while backing up according to Company policy. Ensures company employees and third-party helpers adhere to Company policies, procedures, safety compliance and quality standards, while on designated route. Operates mechanical packer to load and compact trash from hopper into the truck body. Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections; complete and submit a vehicle condition report at the end of the shift. Courteously interacts with customers and/or the general public along the route to answer questions or respond to requests; Notify supervisor of issues requiring management action. Clean loose trash off truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways. Maintains and submits a DOT logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report (post-trip inspection sheet) as required by law or company policy. Maneuver truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces, using mirrors to back up. Uses a key map and GPS to locate service addresses. Follows safe operating practices, including lock out/ tag out procedures to ensure proper operation of the truck. Monitors operations to detect loose debris, using mirrors or direct sight and/or listening for debris falling onto truck during dumping operation; visually scans customer site before and after dumping. Adherence to all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired, but not required. Possess valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must be at least 21 years of age. Minimum one (1) years of commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate. Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the truck and its components, and the basic maintenance required for safe operation. Ability to recognize unacceptable waste (such as gasoline or other flammable materials). Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Physical/Mental Demands: Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
