Build and operate shared Azure infrastructure and self-service tooling to improve developer productivity while embedding security and compliance standards. | Bachelor's degree and 3–6+ years in software or platform engineering with proficiency in infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and security-first system design. | Description The Platform Engineer is responsible for building, operating, and improving the shared infrastructure and tooling that Fervo's internal teams use to deliver software. This role focuses on delivering reliable, secure, and well-documented platform services. This individual will work closely with engineering teams across the organization, cybersecurity partners, and the team that owns Fervo's governed Azure environment to build platform capabilities that teams adopt because they make delivery faster. Success in this role requires strong hands-on cloud and automation expertise and the ability to turn shared platform needs into self-service capabilities. Requirements Responsibilities Platform Hosting & Provisioning Build and operate shared Azure infrastructure for teams to consume, including hosting with Container Apps, private networking, managed identity, OIDC trust federation, and secrets-free CI/CD pipelines within the organization’s governed Azure environment. Develop and maintain self-service and auto-provisioning tooling so teams can quickly go from a new repository to a live, governed, service. Shared Platform Services Build and operate the core, shared infrastructure that teams would otherwise rebuild for every project. Examples include an API gateway, a service catalog, and service discovery, reducing the cognitive load and time teams spend on undifferentiated work. Enable core capabilities to be discoverable and consumable by both engineers and AI agents. Security & Compliance Embed security from day one: private ingress, least-privilege IAM, and security scanning. Maintain audit trails aligned to NERC CIP, OCED, and SOX ITGC requirements. Adoption & Measurement Work directly with teams across the organization to understand what they're building, identify where the platform is creating friction, and iterate on it. Track time-to-deploy, adoption, cost attribution, and code review patterns, treating them as feedback signals, not reporting artifacts. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or equivalent experience). 3–6+ years of experience in software development, platform engineering, or cloud engineering. Writing and deploying infrastructure as code in an automated manner. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and secrets-free authentication patterns (OIDC, managed identity, workload identity federation). Able to design systems with a security-first mindset: private ingress, least-privilege IAM, no long-lived credentials. Writing and consuming APIs. Leveraging AI Tools such as Claude Code to enhance productivity. Strong written and verbal communication. Preferred Experience with Model Context Protocol. Familiarity with platform engineering principles: internal developer platforms, golden paths, service catalogs. Experience building developer-facing tooling: scaffolders, CLI tools, bootstrappers. Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to energy infrastructure: NERC CIP, OCED, SOX ITGC. Event driven architecture.
Build, automate, and operate Azure-native cloud platform using infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows. | 8+ years infrastructure experience with 6+ years cloud engineering and automation, proficient in Terraform, Bicep, Python, PowerShell, and GitHub CI/CD pipelines. | Description The Senior Cloud Engineer builds, automates, and operates Fervo’s Azure-native cloud platform, turning architectural designs into repeatable, well-governed infrastructure. The role centers on infrastructure as code, GitHub-based delivery, self-service platform capabilities, and automated configuration of Linux and Windows systems. Success requires hands-on engineering, demonstrated coding ability, and the discipline to manage infrastructure through version-controlled, peer-reviewed practices rather than manual change. Lead and execute interconnection strategy and project delivery across multiple regional ISOs and utilities, managing technical analysis, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership. | 10+ years of interconnection or transmission project leadership with direct CAISO/NV Energy experience, proficiency in power system analysis tools, strong leadership skills, and a relevant engineering bachelor's degree. | The Head of Interconnection will lead all aspects of grid access for our growing project pipeline. This position will be responsible for strategy, execution, and delivery across CAISO, NV Energy, LADWP, Idaho, New Mexico, and Colorado. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with proven leadership to ensure Fervo’s projects achieve timely and reliable interconnection. This role will report to the Head of Development. Responsibilities • Develop and execute Fervo’s interconnection strategy across CAISO, WECC, SPP, ERCOT, MISO, and PJM. • Lead queue submissions, feasibility and system impact studies, deliverability assessments, and LGIA negotiations. • Oversee technical analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN, and PowerGEM TARA to validate system impacts and drive decisions. • Build and lead a high-performing interconnection team, ensuring disciplined execution and proactive risk management. • Partner with Development, Engineering, Construction, Finance, and Operations teams to align interconnection milestones with project schedules. • Engage directly with ISO, utility, and regulatory stakeholders; represent Fervo in queue reform and transmission planning initiatives. • Track and interpret market and policy changes across CAISO, NVE, LADWP, Idaho, New Mexico, and Colorado to inform strategy. • Track interconnection securities and provide cash flow recommendations to management. • Conduct due diligence to identify interconnection and transmission risks associated with potential projects and commercial transactions Required Qualifications • 10+ years of interconnection or transmission project leadership, with direct experience in CAISO and/or NV Energy required. • Demonstrated success navigating CAISO Phase I/II studies, deliverability assessments, and LGIA negotiations. • Familiarity with interconnection processes in LADWP, Idaho, New Mexico, and Colorado strongly preferred. • Proficiency with PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN, and PowerGEM TARA. • Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire technical teams. • Exceptional communication skills with a track record of engaging effectively with utilities, regulators, and industry stakeholders. • Experience with hybrid resources (solar + storage, geothermal, wind) and regional resource adequacy frameworks a plus. • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related /similar field. Location Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX, with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular presence at the Houston Fervo office location will be required.
