Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer (Remote - US)

Design, build, and scale backend platform services with payment integrations and collaborate with product and design teams. | 7+ years Ruby on Rails experience with strong PostgreSQL and API development skills, familiar with Docker, AWS, and Git CI/CD workflows. | We're looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our engineering team and help design, build, and scale the core services that power our platform. You'll work on business-critical features, backend architecture, API development, payment integrations, and cloud infrastructure while collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership. You'll participate in architectural decisions, drive technical improvements, optimize application performance, and contribute to the evolution of a modern, scalable platform serving a growing customer base. We value clean, maintainable code, thoughtful engineering practices, and a pragmatic approach to solving complex technical challenges. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple domains, including payments, data processing, integrations, and platform services while leveraging modern development practices and AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality. If you enjoy building reliable software, improving existing systems, and working in a collaborative, product-focused environment, we'd love to hear from you. 7+ years of professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails; Strong experience designing and maintaining production Rails applications; Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, query optimization, and database design; Experience with Sidekiq or similar background job frameworks; Experience building REST APIs; GraphQL experience is a strong plus; Experience integrating third-party APIs and payment systems; Familiarity with Docker and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred); Experience working with Git-based development workflows and CI/CD; Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills; Excellent communication skills in English. Nice to Have: Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD); Experience working with event-driven or service-oriented architectures; AWS services such as Lambda, S3, ECS, RDS, or SQS; Data engineering experience (Athena, Glue, data warehouses, analytics pipelines); Experience with Terraform or infrastructure automation; Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
