Support and maintain lab equipment and facilities ensuring accurate calibration and safe operation. | Bachelor's degree in engineering with 0-3 years experience in pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation and knowledge of calibration and safety standards. | The Lab Maintenance Engineer shall be responsible for supporting and monitoring maintenance and facilities projects to ensure safe and efficient operation of the lab equipment. The duties shall include the oversight of cooling, heating and prototype lab area, the maintenance and continuous improvement of testing equipment required for the daily production of test data. Support the proper functioning and development of Engineering Lab by calibrating testing instrumentation on schedule, ensuring instruments, gauges and testing devices are calibrated correctly and give accurate readings at all times. May Include • Work directly with other Facilities Engineers or Managers to continuously monitor and improve the performance of test equipment and facilities. • Provide support to the lab maintenance and facilities team for troubleshooting day-to-day issues related to testing equipment and facilities. • Provide engineering support to maintenance technicians. • Assure repair techniques, repair procedures, and equipment specific training are documented and made available. • Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts. • Develop and maintain test room P&ID schematics. • Comply with calibration procedures for existing new lab equipment. • Maintain accurate calibration records. Tracking of all calibrated equipment, internal and external. • Complete calibrations and qualifications in a safe, timely and accurate manner following calibration procedures and schedules. • Ensure calibration records are completed accurately. • Coordinate with third party labs to expedite equipment calibrated externally. Maintain accurate records of accreditations held by external labs and ensure they comply with the ISO 17025 standard. • Analyze calibration reports, review findings and support troubleshooting. • Keep lead informed of any calibration issues or deficiencies discovered related to calibration. • Responsible for proper handling, storage and maintenance of test instrumentation and calibration standards. • Identify project supply/equipment needs to ensure lab operations are not interrupted. • Support root cause investigation if unplanned maintenance events. • Maintain safety as the highest priority and abide by all safety policies and procedures. Ensure that work areas are safe, neatly organized and professional on-site and in an office environment. • Undertake other projects assigned by the management. Nature & Scope •  Applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. • Encouraged to seek continuous improvements. • Performs a range of mainly straightforward assignments. • Works independently with general supervision. • Problems faced are difficult but not typically complex Knowledge & Skills • Must be knowledgeable in the fields of Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, and Mass Transfer  • Basic LabVIEW HMI programming skills. • Exposure to programming Allen Bradley PLC’s, VFD. • Practical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems. • Familiar with single phase and three phase Electrical systems. • Ability to understand traceability, substitution of standards, test accuracy and uncertainty ratios as part of ISO 17025 requirements. • General understanding of pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation, understands and applies basic concepts of calibration and requirements including accuracy testing. • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics. • Must be familiar in hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical components, and construction. • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Able to manage tasks with minimal direction.  • Fair knowledge of electrical practices and safety codes. • Effective communication skills – verbal and written.  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people and in a team setting.  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical skills. • Effective organizational and time management skills including prioritization skills.  • Ability to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job. Experience • 0-3 years’ experience including co-ops, internships, and/or research projects that include pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation. Design, configure, and support manufacturing process control systems including PLC and automation troubleshooting. | Entry-level engineering degree with controls focus, basic PLC and programming experience, and good communication skills. | The PE Controls Engineer 1 is responsible for the design, configuration, integration, and implementation of manufacturing process control systems. This includes supporting process changes and projects to accommodate new models or products and to improve the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment. Skilled, hands-on problem solving combined with software programing of various types of controls components. The PE Controls Engineer 1 also works directly with the production engineering and maintenance teams to provide enhanced troubleshooting and controls software support for manufacturing equipment downtime issues. Position Responsibilities May Include •  Support manufacturing process control systems and automation.  • Understand and troubleshoot various PLC, HMI, VFD and servo programs and modify as required.  • Diagnose issues with plant Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT and DeviceNet communication networks.  • Learn the SCADA and MES system of the plant and understand the data exchange process requirements between PLC and MES.  • Learn and use Virtual Machines and servers to perform support activities.  • Under direct supervision, provide controls support to resolve manufacturing equipment failures, faults, and runtime issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and lost production.  • Assist in identifying root causes of equipment issues and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.  • Interpret and modify electrical drawings and schematics.  • Follow established processes to increase the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment.  • Document program changes and improvements for lessons learned and group communication.  • Interface well with other teams to solve production problems.  • Work with production engineering and maintenance teams in troubleshooting and with repairs.  • Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations.  • Analyze problems in a high-volume production atmosphere.  • Adapt well to changing responsibilities and work environment.  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.
