As a Sales Engineering Intern, you’ll support our team in developing equipment solutions that help customers reduce energy, water use, and waste in the wastewater industry. In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers and the sales team to assist with equipment sizing, proposal development, and technical support. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to industrial equipment applications, customer interactions, and the full sales support process. As part of the team, you will: Support engineers in reviewing customer requirements and learning how to select and size equipment using Alfa Laval’s software tools. Contribute to preparing proposal packages, including technical information, pricing details, and basic equipment documentation. Help gather and organize technical specifications, drawings, and supporting documents for customer bids. Assist with providing technical information to internal teams and channel partners. Take part in creating or updating training materials that help explain Alfa Laval products, processes, and best practices. Participate in team meetings, customer discussions (as appropriate), and learning sessions to build industry knowledge. What You Bring Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, environmental, or related field). An interest in industrial equipment, sustainability, or the wastewater industry. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn how to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Ability to manage tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines with guidance. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with engineering software is a plus but not required. Curiosity, teamwork, and desire to learn from technical mentors. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location. The hourly rate for this role is $22 to $27 USD per hour. About the job Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Automation Engineer Intern supports the Engineering & Supply Food Systems (FOS) group and will gain hands‑on experience across multiple engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Automation, Mechanical, and Process. This internship offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge, develop leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. This role is based in Buffalo, NY. As a part of the team, you will: Assist, organize, and facilitate improvement initiatives within the Alfa Laval C2 global continuous improvement system. Learn about Alfa Laval products, supply chains, and engineering disciplines, gaining exposure to real‑world challenges and cross‑functional collaboration. Document meeting minutes, identify deliverables and deadlines, follow up with team members, and help drive small to medium initiatives to completion. Network and collaborate with engineers across disciplines, supporting their improvement activities and learning from experienced professionals. File completed initiatives and documentation in the C2 global continuous improvement system to support organizational learning and standardization. Support Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Engineering teams with daily tasks under the guidance of skilled E&S FOS team members. What You Know You are a college student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, and you bring: Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with PC tools, including presentations, Excel, Adobe Connect, and Teams Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software (a plus) Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams Interest in automation, process improvement, and multidisciplinary engineering work Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new tools, systems, and methodologies Ability to prioritize and manage multiple short‑term tasks in a fast‑paced environment Capability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed Ability to synthesize technical information from multiple sources Strong technical problem‑solving skills Positive, customer‑focused mindset We care about diversity, inclusion and equity in our recruitment processes.
