Oversee daily operations of a Service Center, supervise staff, ensure safety and compliance, and maintain operational efficiency. | High school diploma or GED preferred, 2+ years leadership experience, knowledge of freight and transportation safety, strong communication and organizational skills. | Job Description The Supervisor, Operations I oversees the daily operations of a Service Center and ensures the work is performed according to approved Company procedures, standards, and specification. This position supervises all activities of Service Center employees, supports personnel engaged in loading and unloading activities, and requires a hands-on leadership approach to ensure operational efficiency, maintain compliance with labor agreements, and foster a culture of safety and productivity. This position includes working both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions. Requirements Education: • High School Diploma / GED, preferred • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Experience may be used in place of education. Experience: • 2 years leadership experience, preferred • Transportation experience preferred but not required. Computer Skills: • General computer knowledge, preferred Additional Requirements: • General knowledge of freight, transportation regulations, safety standards, and proper freight handling techniques, preferred • Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills, required • Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently, as well as strong organizational and time management skills, preferred • Shift days and hours required for this position vary by location and may include days, nights, and/or weekends. Being able to work the required hours at this location will be considered a minimum requirement. • This position is in a dock environment with exposure to varied weather conditions and noise. Other Details Work Hours: • Schedule may vary depending on Service Center location and may include days, nights, and/or weekends. Some locations are required to be staffed 24/7 and require schedules of 50+ hours a week. Ability to work the required hours at the location will be considered a minimum requirement. The program is a 20-week program and you will be trained on every aspect of our company and industry from a service center perspective. You will be working at one of our 240 nationwide Service Centers. Willingness to relocate is key to this program. Your training is centered around learning the role of front-line operational supervisors and gain new insight into safety, maintenance and transportation procedures. This orientation enables you to observe supervisors during the operational shifts (inbound, outbound, city and DC) of an ABF Freight Service Center. You will also have a glimpse into Sales by spending time with ArcBest Account Managers. By accompanying account managers on client presentations, you will learn the dynamics of proactively managing ArcBest accounts. After training, you will be placed in one of our more than 240 facilities across the continental United States as an Operations Supervisor. Those in our top management positions all paved their way by developing and strengthening their own abilities throughout their ArcBest and ABF Freight careers.
