We are hiring a Back End Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to work on our team dedicated to delivering impactful features on VA.gov at the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA). Preference for candidates with Veterans Affairs (VA), or other Federal Agency, experience. This is a remote work position available only to U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanant Residents residing within the Continental United States (OCONUS), no exceptions. This position requires candidates to pass/maintain a public trust background investigation. Start date: Immediate Job Summary Develop and implement back-end components using Ruby on Rails, JSON controllers, and Sidekiq focusing on robust server-side logic and database integrations with RESTful APIs and other back-end services. Participate in system planning and the development deployment process while ensuring adherence to software compliance and testing standards. Responsible for contributing to the back-end development processes, complying to system guidelines, and conducting system analysis to address questions regarding program intentions, output specifications, data input requirements, programming strategies, and control systems, as needed. Responsibilities And Duties • Work with a team of developers towards ensuring high-quality deliverables and timely completion • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the team • Promote best practices and coding standards to maintain high standards of excellence within the team • Collaborate on gathering system requirements, developing system stories, and planning project timelines and estimates • Actively contribute to the preparation of comprehensive documentation, including reports, operational procedures, and maintenance manuals to ensure clear communication and record keeping • Participate in integration testing efforts to ensure seamless system functionality and robustness • Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and address any project issues promptly • Conduct in-depth analysis of back-end requirements, including data flow, input/out specifications, and hardware/software needs to optimize system performance • Actively participate in code and sprint reviews, ensuring that all deliverables meet contractual obligations and project specifications Qualifications And Required Skills • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years' experience (or commensurate experience) • Must have demonstrated experience developing in Ruby on Rails and managing back-end systems • Analytical and investigation skills, including use of RSpec • Experience with Agile Methodology and Scrum Processes • Experience with Github, Jira, and Confluence • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident residing in the United States • Must be able to pass a Federal Background Investigation Preferred Skills And Experience • Proven experience working with the VA, or other Federal agencies, with a deep understanding of federal processes and regulations • Familiarity with the VA.gov platform and its ecosystem, demonstrating the ability to navigate and optimize its features effectively • Knowledgeable in government cloud hosting solutions, and adept at managing web hosting environments • Proficient in managing API services within the VA network; skilled in handling and optimizing RESTful API transactions • Demonstrated expertise in systems integrations, with a preference for candidates who have experience with CorpDB, MPI, BDN, or VBMS systems • Preferred: Reside in a U.S. HUBZone: HUBZone Map (sba.gov) Benefits At 532 Group we recognize our people as our greatest strength.
