About this Role As an External Communications Specialist, you’ll play a key role in shaping and executing high-impact communications that amplify Assurant’s voice and reputation. You’ll help craft compelling narratives, support thought leadership initiatives and contribute to projects that strengthen Assurant’s position as a trusted, forward-thinking industry leader. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of External Communications, you’ll collaborate closely with communications, marketing, and business partners to deliver integrated strategies that enhance brand awareness and support growth. You’ll work on a variety of initiatives, providing flexibility to learn across multiple facets of external communications while making a meaningful impact. Why Assurant? • People First – We prioritize employee well-being and development • Empowerment – We enable our people to do their best work • Benefits effective day one • 401K Match – Up to 6% dollar-for-dollar What will be my responsibilities in this role? • Identify and craft compelling stories that showcase Assurant’s market-leading innovation and customer focus • Develop and execute communications plans aligned with product and corporate strategy • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, analysts, and key stakeholders • Create press materials, statements, and messaging consistent with Assurant’s brand voice • Support executive thought leadership through events, podcasts, and high-impact channels • Collaborate across key partners to ensure consistent messaging and uncover story-worthy initiatives • Track and report on the impact of communications campaigns, providing actionable insights to inform strategy and measure success • Maintain resource and messaging library to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance • Contribute to a culture of agility and innovation by bringing new ideas that deliver measurable impact What are the requirements needed for this position? • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field • Minimum 2 years of experience in external communications, media relations, or PR (agency or in-house), including relevant internship experience • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills with the ability to simplify complex information into clear, persuasive narratives • Experience developing media strategies, shaping messaging, creating compelling content and pitching stories • Strong project management and organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail What other skills/experience would be helpful to have? • Proficiency with communications platforms and tools • Experience leveraging AI resources to enhance communications processes • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and sound judgment • Curious, adaptable, collaborative, and proactive—bringing a willingness to take initiative and contribute wherever needed • Experience leveraging thought leadership to enhance brand reputation How much should I expect to travel? • Up to 10% annually #LI-Remote
