Job Description: Payroll Manager Company: Associated Veterinary Partners Location: Remote Reports to: Controller Position Summary The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing for the company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. This role will play a critical part in supporting veterinary hospital staff, doctors, and support teams by maintaining efficient payroll operations, providing excellent internal customer service, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws. Key Responsibilities Manage the end-to-end payroll process for multi-state veterinary practices, including clinics, hospitals, and support centers. Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and special compensation. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, including overtime rules and veterinary industry-specific labor regulations. Supervise payroll staff and provide training, guidance, and performance feedback. Review and reconcile payroll reports, journal entries, and benefits deductions. Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll-related discrepancies and provide reporting as needed. Administer garnishments, tax withholdings, and other mandatory deductions. Serve as the point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, ensuring timely and professional resolution. Ensure accurate recordkeeping in alignment with company policies, audit standards, and legal requirements. Collaborate with HR on compensation changes, promotions, terminations, and other employment events that affect payroll. Stay updated on changing payroll regulations, veterinary industry compliance standards, and best practices. Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws, including FLSA and multi-state wage and hour regulations. Experience with payroll systems (Paylocity, ADP, Paycom, or similar). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong communication and customer service skills for supporting veterinary teams. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential preferred.
