The Director of Accounting is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting tasks while also supervising a small accounting team. This role supports a multi-unit quick service restaurant (QSR) organization with 100+ locations. The ideal candidate has recent, hands-on operational accounting experience, strong multi-unit industry knowledge, and the ability to lead, train, and develop a small team. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership ability, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves daily. Key Responsibilities Hands-On Daily Accounting Tasks • Perform daily bank and POS reconciliations • Process accounts payable and ensure timely vendor payments • Review and post daily sales, inventory entries, deposits, and cash variances • Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries • Handle intercompany entries and multi-entity accounting • Process month-end accruals and reconciliations for key accounts • Maintain fixed asset records and lease accounting schedules • Identify and resolve discrepancies across store-level reporting Financial Close & Reporting • Manage all aspects of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close • Produce accurate and timely financial statements for all locations • Analyze store-level P&Ls, prime cost metrics, and variances • Present financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives Team Leadership & Development • Supervise a small team of staff accountants and accounting clerks • Train team members on accounting procedures, systems, and compliance • Review teamwork for accuracy and completeness • Allocate responsibilities and improve workflow efficiency • Support a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement Compliance, Controls, and Operations Support • Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal controls • Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, and multi-state filings (review + some hands-on work) • Monitor cash handling controls across all restaurant locations • Support external audits and work with auditors as needed • Partner with Operations to provide financial clarification and support store managers Systems & Process Improvement • Work directly in the accounting software daily • Leverage POS and back-office integrations to streamline accounting • Maintain and improve accounting processes, closing calendars, and reconciliation tools • Assist in systems upgrades or migrations • Experience with Restaurant365 (R365) is strongly preferred Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required) • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query a plus) • Strong working knowledge of GAAP Experience Requirements Required • 5–7 years of recent, hands-on operational accounting experience • 2–4+ years of recent experience supervising or managing a small accounting team • Multi-unit restaurant, retail, or hospitality experience • Direct experience performing day-to-day accounting functions (not just oversight) • Proven experience with high-volume transactions and multi-entity accounting Preferred • Experience with Restaurant365 (R365) • Experience working with POS systems and store-level integrations • Experience in QSR or franchise environments Skills & Competencies • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • A collaborative, approachable leadership style • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to streamline processes • Comfortable working directly with upper management and store operations teams • Compensation is based off experience • Health Insurance • Dental Insurance • Vision Insurance • Voluntary Life Insurance • Company Paid Short-Term Disability and Life Insurance • 401K with Company Match • Paid Time Off • Paid Holidays Pay: Up to $125,000.00 per year Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Disability insurance • Health insurance • Life insurance • Paid time off • Vision insurance Work Location: In person
