Salary: £160k - 185k per year Reference: 000037RR Title: Lead Cloud Engineer (Azure) Location: 100% remote Direct Hire Competitive Salary + benefits MUST HAVE: Current Azure, FedRamp and Terraform experience. Overview We are seeking a highly hands-on Lead Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate our Azure cloud platform. This role is focused on execution - you will lead by doing, owning infrastructure, DevOps practices, and cloud operations end-to-end. You will play a critical role in shaping a secure, scalable, and reliable Azure environment, while partnering closely with development, product, and security teams to implement security controls and deliver a platform that is reliable, scalable, and FedRAMP-ready. Responsibilities Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture • Design and implement Azure infrastructure • Build and manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) • Own cloud environment architecture, including networking, segmentation, and access control CI/CD & DevOps • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred) • Improve deployment reliability, speed, and rollback strategies • Standardize build/release processes across teams Security & Compliance • Partner with the Security team to implement and maintain technical security controls • Enforce best practices: • • RBAC / least privilege • Azure Policy & governance • Logging and monitoring Monitoring, Reliability & Operations • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics) • Lead incident response and root cause analysis (RCA) • Improve system reliability, availability, and performance Cross-functional Collaboration • Work closely with development teams to enable scalable, reliable deployments • Partner with product teams to ensure features align with platform capabilities and compliance requirements • Partner with the ISSE to translate security control requirements into platform-level technical implementations Technical Leadership • Define and enforce cloud best practices and standards • Guide architectural decisions • Mentor engineers when needed Required Qualifications • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure • Deep experience with (MUST): • • Terraform (IaC) • CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar) • Solid understanding of: • • Azure networking (VNet, private endpoints, NSGs) • Identity & access (Entra ID, RBAC) • Experience working with cloud security and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP) • Proven ability to troubleshoot and operate production systems What are we looking for in the candidate? • Reliable, repeatable infrastructure deployments via Terraform • Stable CI/CD pipelines with minimal manual intervention • Platform infrastructure that meets ISSE-defined security control requirements with no open blockers • Clear collaboration between development, product, and security teams Ascendo is a certified minority owned staffing firm, and we welcome and celebrate diversity.
