Independent Grant Writer (Part-Time, Project-Based to Start) Organization: ASAP! (After School Arts Program) Location: Hybrid – Washington, CT or Remote Compensation: $30–$40/hour, commensurate with experience Hours: Initially project- and grant-based, with potential to expand to 10–20 hours per week Schedule: Flexible, with clearly defined deadlines and deliverables About ASAP! ASAP! is a nonprofit organization providing arts-infused education to students across Connecticut. Our mission is to foster creative, hands-on learning through the arts. Through joyful programming rooted in creativity, collaboration, and discovery, we empower young people and believe deeply in the arts as a catalyst for personal and community transformation. Position Overview ASAP! is seeking an experienced, highly organized Grant Writer to support our fundraising efforts by researching, writing, and managing grant proposals from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This role is well-suited for a grant professional who is not only a strong writer but also systems-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple clients simultaneously. The Grant Writer will work closely with the Executive Director and must be able to quickly learn and operate within ASAP!’s existing organizational systems. This position will begin as project- and grant-based, with the opportunity to expand into a more consistent part-time role as capacity, funding, and organizational needs grow. Key ResponsibilitiesGrant Development & Management • Research, write, and submit grant proposals and Letters of Inquiry aligned with ASAP!’s strategic priorities • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including applications, follow-up materials, reporting, and stewardship • Maintain a detailed grants calendar with clear internal deadlines and reporting requirements • Identify new funding opportunities and provide strategic recommendations Collaboration & Information Management • Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to gather narratives, budgets, metrics, and supporting documentation • Collect, organize, and synthesize program data and institutional information for repeated use across proposals • Maintain accurate, well-organized grant files and records Systems & Organization • Work fluently within ASAP!’s Google Drive structure, including shared folders, naming conventions, and version control • Accurately track grant activity and records • Use project management tools to manage timelines, tasks, and deliverables • Ensure all materials are easy to locate, clearly labeled, and consistently updated Qualifications • Demonstrated success as a grant writer securing foundation, corporate, and/or government funding • Exceptional writing skills with strong attention to detail, structure, tone, and clarity • Highly organized with strong systems-thinking skills, including filing, documentation, and information management • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use Google Drive and Basecamp, ASAP!’s project management platform • Strong research skills and ability to independently source and evaluate funding opportunities • Excellent time management skills, with a clear understanding of deadlines and competing priorities • Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication and accountability • Familiarity with nonprofit budgets, evaluation metrics, and reporting requirements • Experience with grant databases preferred Important Note: This role is designed for an independent contractor who manages multiple clients. Candidates must be able to realistically assess availability and commit to agreed-upon timelines. To avoid potential conflicts of interest, preference may be given to candidates who do not currently reside in Northwest Connecticut or work closely with multiple nonprofits in the region.
