Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Part-Time) Location: Fairfield, NJ (On-site) Company: Armel Electronics LLC Employment Type: Part-Time About Us: Armel Electronics LLC is a leading manufacturer of high-performance electronic connectors and custom interconnect solutions, proudly serving the aerospace, defense, and industrial markets for over 75 years. Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Part-Time Mechanical Engineer to support our product development, design, and manufacturing operations. This position is ideal for a motivated engineer looking for flexible hours in a hands-on, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for electronic connectors. • Create and modify technical drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks or similar CAD software. • Collaborate with production and quality teams to address engineering challenges and improve manufacturability. • Support prototyping, testing, and validation of new or revised designs. • Provide technical input on transfer molding processes, including tool design and material selection. • Lead First Article Inspections (FAIs) and prepare comprehensive FAI reports in accordance with AS9102 or customer-specific requirements. • Prepare documentation, including BOMs, technical specifications, and work instructions. • Assist in the evaluation of materials and suppliers for mechanical components. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in the electronics or manufacturing industry. • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred). • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, transfer molding, and stamping. • Experience leading First Article Inspections and preparing FAI documentation. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Work Schedule: • Part-time (approximately 10–20 hours/week). • On-site presence required in Fairfield, NJ. Preferred Experience: • Background in connector design or precision mechanical components. • Knowledge of MIL-spec standards and design for harsh environments. • Hands-on experience with molding or tooling development.
