Salary: $50,000 Base + Commissions Freight Broker Department of Defense (DoD) Freight Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Freight Broker to specialize in managing Department of Defense (DoD) freight. This role requires expertise in handling DoD tenders, solicitations, spot bids, and compliance requirements while ensuring exceptional service delivery. The Freight Broker will serve as the primary point of contact for DoD-related freight movements, leveraging carrier relationships, and ensuring strict adherence to federal regulations and security standards. Key Responsibilities • Tender, Solicitation & Spot Bid Management • Manage DoD freight tenders through the Defense Transportation System (DTS) or other platforms. • Respond to and manage DoD solicitations, bids, and spot bids in a timely and compliant manner. • Analyze spot bid opportunities to provide competitive and profitable pricing while meeting government requirements. • Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and agreements within DoD guidelines. • Compliance & Documentation • Ensure all shipments meet Department of Defense requirements including security protocols, documentation standards, and carrier qualifications. • Maintain accurate and auditable records for government freight in compliance with federal laws and regulations. • Coordinate with carriers to ensure they meet DoD safety, security, and performance standards. • Operational Execution • Arrange transportation and coordinate end-to-end logistics for DoD freight, including over-dimensional and sensitive cargo. • Track shipments, provide proactive communication, and resolve service issues. • Monitor KPIs, including on-time performance, tender acceptance rates, and cost control. • Relationship Management • Build and maintain relationships with DoD transportation officials, carriers, and internal teams. • Serve as the subject matter expert on all DoD freight processes and requirements. • Collaborate with sales, compliance, and operations teams to improve DoD freight execution. Qualifications • Proven experience in freight brokerage or logistics with a strong background in Department of Defense freight operations. • Working knowledge of DoD freight platforms (e.g., DPS, GFM, Syncada, or related systems). • Understanding of FAR/DFAR regulations, security protocols, and carrier vetting requirements. • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. • Ability to manage multiple solicitations, tenders, and spot bids under tight deadlines. • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and compliance-focused mindset. • Preferred: Current security clearance or eligibility to obtain one. Skills & Competencies • Expertise in DoD freight tendering, solicitations, and spot bids. • Strong carrier management and rate negotiation skills. • High level of compliance awareness and document accuracy. • Problem-solving and decision-making under time-sensitive conditions.
