Digital Inclusion Specialist/Product Designer job at AREA 23 | An IPG Health Company. New York, NY. About the job The Digital Inclusion Specialist / Product Designer has 2 or more years of experience auditing client creative work for accessibility, and 2-4 years of experience as a practitioner of user-centric product design. As a Digital Inclusion Specialist, you will work with a cross-discipline team of designers, writers and developers to ensure all client tactics meet a set standard of WCAG accessibility compliance. As a Product Designer, you will design digital products such as web sites, touchscreen experiences, emails, and experiential UX/UI, seeing your work through handoff and go-live. The role is balanced approximately 50% between each discipline and will be supported and supervised by in-house expertise. You will work closely with creative, strategy, production, and technology to ensure the end digital product meets both the users’ needs and business requirements. Problem solving: • Be a resourceful self-starter with a positive, proactive attitude. • Capable of communicating needs and successes both internally and to client. • Capable of aligning creative to project briefs. Communication: • Approaches any professional interaction with kindness, respect, empathy and humility. • Can convey rationale for design decisions. • Verbalizes conceptual intent and story flow through a single product and/or project series. • Share and present work with internal stakeholders. • Contribute product design suggestions and ideas during internal meetings. • Capable of pivoting between working independently and within a group setting. • Seeks mentorship and guidance from senior product designers and supervisors. • Open to feedback from all departments, not only the Experience Design department, but clients, brand team creatives account and health literacy specialists etc. A day in life: Digital Inclusion: • Complete design and development audit work for all digital tactics • Communicate clear actionable recommendations to copy, design and development. • Be an agency partner to the branding team so that all branding guidelines meet accessibility needs. • Produce accessibility documentation for brand teams to adhere to. Product Design: • Learn to support brand team's digital platform needs with UI design iterations from concept through product launch and/or product maintenance phases. • Utilize industry tools to design digital product layout and iteration for assigned projects. Layouts should be complementary to visual tone and typography style of existing branding and campaign imagery. • Learn the basics of the assigned brand, including individual client names and personalities, brand name, branding elements, safety indication(s) etc. • Gain an understanding of audience priorities and develop designs and creative styles to appropriately meet those needs. • Prioritize learning the pharmaceutical healthcare basics regarding regulatory legal rules, client product and patient medical science and technical requirements, as well as any client digital knowledge, brand guidelines, product specifications, and CMS conditions. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Collaborate with UX partner to ensure the design lines up with the previously created architecture. • Work together productively with an assigned brand team. • Develop strong working relationships with relevant agency departments including Tech development, Creative, Editorial, Account Marketing, Strategy and Health Literacy, and Project Management. • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including UX architects, developers, art directors, copywriters, and project managers. • Communicate with team members and supervisor regarding deadlines, revisions, and design quality consistency. • Proactively approach supervisor with new ideas and suggestions for personal career growth and team dynamics and development. • Demonstrate detail-oriented and organized approach to daily responsibilities. What you will need: Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Bachelor's Degree (preferred); Field: Marketing/advertising, Human-Computer Interaction, visual communication, graphic design, or related discipline Area of Study: Nice to have: Digital Accessibility certification. UI/Product Design certification program (equivalent or similar to certificate programs offered at Google, General Assembly, Nielson Norman etc) Minimum Experience 2-4 years’ Experience Required/Preferred: WCAG digital accessibility work. UI Design, Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Art Direction and Design or related field (preferred). Digital Inclusion Knowledge Level: Intermediate • Competent in understanding text, design and development needs for WCAG • Capable of creating clear written and designed branded documentation and guidance. • Capable of professionally communicating to stakeholders the what and why of accessibility Product Design Knowledge Level: Advanced Beginner • Competent in design software such as Adobe XD, Figma & Sketch • Understand the importance and basics of ADA compliance and requirements, and apply them through the use of proper color contrast and tools like Stark and Contrast • Understand the basics of how design relates to code. • Proficient in design software such as Adobe XD, Figma & Sketch • Understand the importance and basics of ADA compliance and requirements, and apply them through the use of proper color contrast and tools like Stark and Contrast • Understand the basics of how design relates to code. UI design: • Collaborate with UX partner to translate wireframes into layouts. • Proficiency in building and maintaining a design system. • Ability to take brand design from print (or other materials) to digital platforms. • Be aware of current product design/UI best practices. Keep up to date with trends, techniques, and software. Creativity: • Exhibit the ability to design creatively within designated limitations. • Establish capacity to pivot as needed via creative problem solving. • Display conceptual thinking and ability to visually represent consistent story flow through a single product and/or project series. • Develop uniquely fresh ideas. • Demonstrate a voracious curiosity to learn about new ideas, current and developing industry knowledge, teammates' roles, and client brand. • Display a willingness to share new knowledge with teammates. Salary: $70,000 – 95,000 annually. The salary range for this position is noted within this job posting.
