Requires a life sciences degree, at least one year of professional scientific or technical communication experience, and understanding of research and private sector.
We’re looking for a 1-2 month contract Science Writer to help us report out on our scientific and business progress through a series of blog posts. The ideal candidate will have editorial experience and a keen eye for detail. You should have enough direct scientific experience to understand our research, which covers a broad range of topics and disciplines; A degree in the life sciences is required. We strive to make our posts understandable by fellow scientists but not require deep expertise in a given field. We shoot for a more conversational tone with visibility into our thinking. The Science Writer will be involved at the outset of planning new posts, preparing early drafts, and incorporating feedback. Responsibilities: • Work directly with our co-founders to prepare written updates on our science and business by drafting copy, and providing high-level feedback on structure and organization • Maintain a firm grasp of Arcadia's publishing experiment and business model in order to help ideate and iterate on our written communications • Write for clarity while taking care to ensure scientific accuracy, checking with scientist(s) for more background as needed Experience: • You should have enough scientific experience to understand our research, which covers a broad range of topics and scientific disciplines; degree in the life sciences required • A minimum of one year professional experience in science or other technical communication, specifically writing or editing • Understanding of basic research and private sector (eg. venture capital) Compensation: The expected salary range is $75-$125 per hour.
