Position Description Job Title Head Cashier Sep-24 FLSA Status – Non Exempt Summary Provides customers with a total for their purchases, collects money from customers, and gives accurate change. Monitors the work of other cashiers to ensure that all cashiers are following designated cashiering procedures and that they work in their assigned store areas when the registers are not busy. Reports to the immediate supervisor or assistant manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Operates the main cash register station to itemize and total purchases. • Collects money from customers and gives accurate change. • Places merchandise in bags or boxes for customers. • Balances cash received with cash sales daily. • Follows the cashier manual to ensure accuracy and accountability. • Assist in training other cashiers by giving directions and answering questions. • Reduces customer-waiting time by asking for a cashier, using the intercom system. • Maintains a clean, neat cashier station. • Returns unsold, priced items to sales floor; un-priced items and empty hangers to production area. • Removes debris from shopping carts and returns carts to storage area. Disposes of trash. • Maintains good public relations. • Maintains courteous and helpfulness to customers. • Maintains good working relationships with staff members. • Ensures that the day’s promotional signs are accurate. • Confirms specials for the day with the supervisor and ensures that announcements are made throughout the day. • Answers incoming telephone calls. Politely answers calls and directs them to the appropriate person. • Maintains jewelry sales area. Organizes display area; cleans counter tops and display trays. • Shows customers jewelry from showcase. • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed, including assignments, which may be outside the primary area of employment. Qualifications Knowledge, Skill and Ability • Ability to add, subtracts, and counts out change correctly. • Ability to promote a favorable company image with employees and the public. • Ability to interact effectively with customers. • Ability to present a positive Company image an be courteous to customers • Ability to work as a productive member of a team. Education and/or Experience Required • Experience working with a diverse workforce. • Ability to work with individuals possessing developmental disabilities. • Ability to use good judgment. • Energy to take on fast-paced work. • Good listener. Physical Demands • Works inside in a production and retail environment. • Exposure to temperature fluctuations. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear, stand and move throughout the store. • Use upper body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to dust from donations. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly standing, bending, and stooping. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to operate cash register. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
