ELECTRICAL AND CONTROLS ENGINEER PE - MANAGING AGENT Full Time, Permanent, Remote Terminal located in Alabama, USA - 10% travel THE OPPORTUNITY: We are seeking a Managing Agent PE for our client, a specialized engineering firm focused on bulk handling and power systems, primarily in Alabama. As a key member of a small but growing US team — part of a larger Canadian company with its head office in British Columbia, Canada — you will take ownership of engineering projects by reviewing and sealing design documents, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, serving as the Engineer of Record, managing the firm’s Certificate of Authorization, and supervising engineering personnel, as well as managing engineering quality and risk. This role requires a professional engineer who can lead projects independently while coordinating with a team of engineers and external contractors. You will serve as the company’s representative in Alabama, overseeing engineering practices and supporting the expansion of operations in the U.S. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY: • Review and take ownership of engineering drawings and documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality. • Lead projects by setting up design frameworks, guiding junior and intermediate engineers, and reviewing their work (60–80% review, 20–40% hands-on design). • Perform technical design tasks, including calculations, power studies, and sketches. • Coordinate with clients, internal teams, and external licensed PEs to address technical questions, progress updates, and specialized expertise. • Balance technical review and design responsibilities, adapting as workload evolves. • Manage responsibilities as the Managing Agent for Alabama, including: • Maintaining and renewing PE licensure and the firm’s Certificate of Authorization. • Providing administrative supervision of licensed and subordinate personnel performing engineering work in Alabama. • Acting as the Professional Engineer of Record for Alabama projects, ensuring compliance with BELS rules and all regulatory requirements. • Supporting and managing regulatory filings and communications with engineering boards. • Maintain clear communication with clients and stakeholders, manage time effectively, provide accurate work estimates, and submit weekly timesheets. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Professional Engineer (PE) license registered in Alabama. (PE from another state, able to register for Alabama, may be considered). • 5 to 20 years of relevant engineering experience, with a strong background in power systems design (up to 4160V). • Proven experience reviewing and sealing engineering drawings and documentation. • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and take ownership of engineering deliverables. • Familiarity with bulk handling and terminal operations is an asset. • Experience managing or coordinating engineering teams and contractors. • Strong understanding of engineering quality assurance and risk management processes. • Ability to review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and calculations. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients and internal teams. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. • Willingness to travel occasionally within the U.S., as needed, around 10% of the time is expected. • Ability to work independently, manage own workload, and provide clear status updates. • Commitment to maintaining professional engineering standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
