Job description and responsibilities: This role is instrumental in partnering with leadership and Deans of schools, in analyzing requests for data sets, querying data, analyzing and cleaning up the data, ultimately presenting business analytics, dashboards and visualization and developing Business Intelligence solutions. The Institutional Research Data Analyst supports the Office of Institutional Research’s core mission of capturing, analyzing, and interpreting data to drive informed strategic planning and decision making. The successful candidate needs to be current on data science and visualization methodologies as well as capable of utilizing SQL and similar query languages to manage and implement business intelligence and analytics software tools. The Institutional Research Data Analyst will provide high quality full-cycle technical support, training, and resolution to non-technical end users as a business intelligence (BI) and data science subject matter expert. As a primary onsite technical expert and administrator for local or cloud based BI and data analytics platforms used at ACC, the Data Analyst will support the daily operation and functionality of our BI platforms performing various system administrative tasks including configuring, maintaining, and supporting the various BI platforms. This position is responsible for year-round mandatory data reporting to Federal, State, and other external entities. The data analyst will assist with administering and developing various institutional surveys, including course evaluations. Characteristics Of An Ideal Candidate Are This position works with complex data sets from a variety of sources and designs, develops, maintains reports, dashboards, and interactive visualizations that clearly present accurate data to technical and non-technical end users. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced technical software skills, have a strong commitment to the quality and accuracy of data, and show attention to detail while managing shifting priorities and tight deadlines. • Technical Savvy-adept at using technology to solve problems, leverage data, and make informed decisions. Proficient in programming languages (SQL), knowledge of Database Management Systems, Data analytics & Reporting and familiarity with emerging technologies. • Strong Communicator - able to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences, excelling at active listening, asking questions, and providing explanations. • Adaptable- demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new technologies, adapt to changing project requirements, and adjust their strategies based on evolving circumstances. Requirements and qualifications: Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a data related field such as data analytics, statistics, data science, OR 4 years equivalent workplace experience. • 2 years of industry or educational workplace experience managing and administering business intelligence and data analytic software, data extraction, storage, analysis, and interpretation of results. • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences. • Experience consulting with stakeholders about informational needs and institutional planning. • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to ensure data accuracy. • Workplace experience utilizing spreadsheets and relational databases to create queries, tables, and create data dashboard visualizations. Preferred Qualifications • 2 years of demonstrated experience working with Cognos, Banner, and data visualization software. • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a data related field such as data analytics, statistics, data sciences or equivalent workplace credentials or experience. • Experience working in or working closely with an Institutional Research office at a postsecondary institution. • Advanced knowledge and skills with relational databases, data visualization, business intelligence software (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) and/or statistical software (R, Python, SPSS, etc.) • Experience designing, administering, and analyzing surveys and other data gathering instruments. Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position. • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs. • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
