The Role: APPLIED Adhesives is building a new Supplier Development function to strengthen our supply base, unlock innovation, expand category growth, and improve margin performance across our Adhesives and Dispensing Equipment businesses. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Sales, Adhesive Operations, Finance, Business Development, and Marketing to determine the critical activities and actions needed to win with suppliers and grow targeted sub-segments. The Director of Supplier Development’s primary responsibility is to establish and execute plans to advance strategic supplier relationships, develop product line opportunities and identify/support other activities to expand APPLIED Adhesives’ business. This position will be intensely interesting to an individual who wants to be a part of a transformative and high-performing team tasked to drive significant market share growth. This is a remote role, but you must currently live in the U.S. to be considered. The ability to travel 50%-75% of the time is a requirement. Key Responsibilities: • Map and identify decision makers across the target supplier organization. • Gain an internal coach network within the target organization to drive influence. • Collaboratively build a Partnership Engagement plan both parties agree to with measurable goals around growing the collective business. • Lead supplier interactions to advance strategic alliances, attain new business, and leverages relationships to expand partnerships into new product lines, geographies and customer segments. • Create sales strategies and plans to effectively move opportunities forward, keeping related supplier relationship work notes up to date to minimum established standards. • Maintain strong, trustworthy relationships throughout the organization gaining influence to execute on the plan • Create and own the overall engagement plan and framing of the partnership. • Orchestrate supplier interactions with other departments and functions on the APPLIED team (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance). • Hold strategy and preparation sessions before a Supplier visit with all involved outlining current situation, critical points to address, and optimal outcome. • Follow-up with team and supplier, making sure any outstanding action items being addressed. • Gain thorough knowledge of APPLIED’s internal processes and functions of internal teams, IT applications, products, value-added services and industries served is key to success. • Work closely with VP, Marketing to make sure the deal being developed is acceptable as it reaches fruition. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to remain in a stationary position. • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. • Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. • Must be able to travel 50%-75% of the time. Experience and Qualifications: • Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Business or similar field required. MBA preferred. • 7-10 years of supplier development experience required. • Extensive travel required (50–75%), including up to 10 overnight stays per month and 2–3 weeks of travel per month. • Strategic marketing, management, direct sales, or business development experience required. • Experience with Transportation, Industrial, Electronics, Construction, and Automotive products and markets required. • Strong understanding of market trends, financial data, and customer insights. • Collaborative and strategic thinker, consultative and solution oriented. • Quick learner and self-starter with a sense of urgency and forward-thinking acumen to address near and long-term business issues. • Experience navigating complex multi-stakeholder opportunities, knowledge of pricing and marketing strategies, and proper short- and long-term execution. • Highly organized with strong planning, facilitation, and execution skills. • Six-Sigma experience preferred. • Ability to influence at all levels with experience in a distributed, matrixed environment, influencing decision makers with data, and building strong coaches to navigate mutually beneficial deals. • Entrepreneurial acumen, effective communication at all organizational levels, with the proven ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Strong presentation skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Proficient in MS Office suite and Windows O/S. Power BI and Salesforce.com CRM platform experience required.
