Annotate surgical workflows and objects within operating room videos, and provide feedback to improve tools and processes.
Attention to detail, curiosity about technology and healthcare, patience for repetitive tasks, and good communication skills.
Who we are: Apella is applying computer vision, machine learning and natural language processing to improve the standard of care in the most critical aspect of healthcare: surgery. We build applications to enable surgeons, nurses, and hospital administrators to deliver the highest quality care. Who you are: We’re looking for detail-oriented, curious, and tech-savvy individuals who thrive with focused, methodical tasks, have a natural curiosity about how things work, and are eager to learn. This is a long-term, part-time opportunity designed for individuals seeking consistent, flexible secondary work. While you’ll gain valuable experience working with cutting-edge AI in healthcare, the role is intentionally focused in scope and not intended as a stepping stone to full-time or expanded responsibilities. All applicants need to reside in the US, have reliable internet connection, and a private space to complete their work. We are targeting a start date of 2/9 for this role, with a preference for applicants who are open to working Thursday through Sunday, and/or shifts scheduled during evening hours based on Eastern Time (ET). In this role you'll: Use Apella’s internal tools to annotate surgical workflows and objects within operating room videos. Build your understanding of machine learning systems and develop a growing knowledge of surgical environments to inform your work. Work closely with our team to refine workflows and provide feedback on ways to improve our tools and processes. What you'll bring: A sharp eye for detail and a knack for focused, methodical work. A natural curiosity about technology and healthcare, with a willingness to learn new concepts quickly. Patience and persistence when tackling repetitive tasks. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfort observing real surgical procedures (this includes exposure to blood, body parts, and emergency scenarios). A background in healthcare or a strong interest in understanding how care is delivered in hospitals is a bonus, not a requirement. The details: Compensation: $22/hour Hours: 16–20 hours/week to start, with opportunities to increase to 24–28 hours depending on workload Shifts: Flexible 4-hour blocks (8AM–12PM, 12:30–4:30PM, or 6:30–10:30PM ET) Training days during your first week: Be expected to attend up to 4 hours of onboarding sessions, during working hours of 9 AM-5 PM Pacific Time. Benefits: PTO accrual (1 hour per 15 hours worked), sick leave (1 hour per 30 hours worked), and a company-provided laptop Location: Fully remote (US-based only) What to expect from our interview process: A take-home exercise to showcase your attention to detail that should take no more than 1 hour total to complete. A 45-minute Zoom conversation with our hiring team. We’re excited to meet people who bring diverse perspectives and a passion for making an impact. If this role resonates with you, we encourage you to apply—even if you don’t meet every qualification. At Apella, we believe that great ideas come from all backgrounds and experiences. Apella is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply to our roles.
