The Opportunity We’re seeking a Veterinary Hospital Assistant who excels at communication, organization and compassionate care. This part-time role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-based environment. You’ll be the vital connection between clients, veterinarians, and our medical team, ensuring every visit reflects our commitment to proactive, personalized and stress-free care. You’ll triage client calls, schedule appointments, handle prescription requests, assist with exams and treatments as needed, and ensure each pet and client receives an outstanding experience. Please note: This role focuses approximately 75% on client communication and phone support, with the remaining 25% involving hands-on support for our hospital team and patients as needed. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the veterinarian’s extra eyes, ears, and hands—always advocating for each pet’s best interest • Manage client communication: appointment scheduling, prescription requests, education, and follow-ups • Communicate with warmth and professionalism to support client understanding and trust • Educate clients on treatment plans, follow-ups, and wellness care • Collaborate across hospital departments, fostering a positive and solutions-driven team culture • Accurately charge clients for services rendered and products dispensed • Maintain safety and cleanliness using fear-free and low-stress handling techniques • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to hospital performance goals Competencies Required for Success • Client Focus: Anticipate and meets client needs with empathy and clear communication • Active Listening: Listen attentively, gathers details and provides accurate information • Priority Setting: Organize workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment • Action Oriented: Take initiative to complete tasks efficiently and effectively • Composure: Remain calm and professional under pressure and during emotional situations • Deliver Consistently: Follow through on responsibilities and maintains a high standard of care • Create Collaboration: Promote teamwork and positive relationships across the hospital • Functional/Technical Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in animal handling, medical support and EMR systems • Integrity/Trust: Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Qualifications Required: • 2+ years of experience in a small-animal veterinary hospital or clinic • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Proficiency with scheduling software and electronic medical records • Confidence handling pets safely, confidently and compassionately • Commitment to continuous growth and professional development • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed Preferred: • Ability to remain calm and positive under stress • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand or move throughout the shift • Comfort around anesthesia, radiology, and medication environments Why You’ll Love Working Here At Animal Advocate Pet Hospital, you’ll find more than a job—you’ll find a community that values your voice, growth, and contribution.
