Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Shop Manager to lead our maintenance operations and oversee a team of skilled mechanics. This role combines hands-on mechanical knowledge with strong leadership, scheduling, and organizational capabilities. The ideal candidate will ensure that all shop operations run smoothly, equipment downtime is minimized, and repairs meet the highest safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities • Lead and supervise a team of heavy diesel mechanics, ensuring all repairs and maintenance are performed safely and efficiently. • Plan, assign, and review daily workloads, prioritizing urgent jobs and balancing long-term maintenance schedules. • Inspect, diagnose, and assist with complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues as needed. • Oversee inventory and parts management, including ordering, tracking, and maintaining adequate stock levels. • Monitor repair quality, labor hours, and turnaround times, ensuring jobs are completed on budget and on schedule. • Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and compliance documentation using internal systems and software. • Coordinate with operations and dispatch to align equipment availability with project timelines. • Implement and enforce safety standards, shop procedures, and company policies. • Train and develop technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in heavy diesel repair or equipment maintenance, with 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role. • Deep understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on heavy equipment (CAT, John Deere, Komatsu, etc.). • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, delegate work, and uphold high performance standards. • Proficient in maintenance tracking, scheduling, and reporting systems (e.g., Fleetio, TMT, or similar). • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with shifting priorities. • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required). Physical and Work Environment • Regularly works in a shop environment with exposure to heavy machinery, noise, and outdoor elements. • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed. • Occasional travel between worksites may be required.
