Job Summary: The Shipping Team Lead is responsible for overseeing daily shipping operations, including the preparation and packaging of outgoing shipments, while leading and training a team of shipping material handlers. This role ensures efficient workflow, accurate inventory for outbound materials, and compliance with safety protocols to support timely and secure deliveries. Duties/Responsibilities: • Leadership: • Oversee and coordinate the activities of shipping material handlers to ensure efficient and accurate preparation of outgoing shipments. • Delegate tasks, monitor workflow, and provide guidance to team members. • Ensure team adherence to safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies. • Resolve daily operational issues related to shipping and escalate complex problems to management. • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment by modeling professionalism, punctuality, and respect. • Material Handling and Inventory Control: • Manage the selection, gathering, and preparation of materials for outgoing shipments based on work orders. • Oversee the packaging of shipments securely to prevent damage during transit. • Operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) as needed to move materials for shipping. • Perform routine maintenance checks and inspections on equipment to ensure proper functioning. • Ensure consistent inventory rotation to adhere to First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principles • Training and Development • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to improve team performance. • Evaluate training effectiveness through quizzes or other methods and make adjustments as needed. • Submit training reports to management and conduct performance reviews for new employees. • Serve as the primary resource for answering questions from shipping team members to support department success. • Warehouse Operations • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping area within the warehouse. • Promote strong communication and teamwork with warehouse, purchasing, and quality control teams to support overall operations. • Quality and Safety: • Follow established procedures for handling, storing, and transporting outgoing materials. • Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. • Report any safety hazards, accidents, or incidents to supervisors or management. Competencies: • Ability to understand written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with others. • Solid understanding of production machinery and proper assembly procedures relevant to shipping. • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing safety protocols and regulations. • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge of inventory management systems or software. • Experience with barcode scanning or RF scanning technology. • Experience with Epicor is a strong plus. Education and Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or warehousing is a plus. • Previous experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment preferred but not required. • Forklift certification and experience is required. Physical Requirements: • Must have the ability to lift, climb, push, and pull as needed. • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
