We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Web Full Stack with strong expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, and modern web technologies to join an agile, cross-functional engineering team that values collaboration, automation, technical excellence, and innovation. In this role, you will design and build highly scalable, performant, resilient, and accessible web applications while helping shape technical direction and engineering best practices. As a senior engineer, you will be expected to take ownership of complex technical initiatives, influence architecture and design decisions, and mentor engineers across the team. You will be part of the Card Shop group, focused on delivering best-in-class digital experiences for customers shopping for American Express products. Your work will directly contribute to critical customer journeys and will be highly visible and impactful.   RESPONSIBILITIES * Design, architect, and deliver complex features and capabilities across the full web application stack. * Provide technical leadership and help drive architecture, design decisions, and engineering standards. * Build scalable, resilient, secure, accessible, and high-performing applications using modern web technologies. * Collaborate closely with Product Owners, engineers, and other partners to translate business needs into well-designed technical solutions. * Break down complex technical problems and provide clear implementation approaches for the broader engineering team. * Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing. * Champion engineering best practices across code quality, testing, observability, reliability, and maintainability. * Improve deployment confidence through comprehensive automated testing, reliability frameworks, monitoring, and automation. * Identify and address performance, accessibility, availability, and scalability opportunities across our applications. * Partner with Site Reliability Engineering teams to investigate production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions. * Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks and introduce solutions that meaningfully improve our applications, developer experience, and engineering effectiveness. * Continuously identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve team development practices.   QUALIFICATIONS * Have 9+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building modern web applications. * Have demonstrated experience architecting and developing complex systems, leading technical direction, and driving solutions from design through production. * Have strong hands-on expertise with JavaScript and TypeScript. * Have deep experience with modern front-end frameworks and state-management patterns, particularly React and Redux or similar technologies. * Have strong experience with Node.js, REST APIs, Express, and server-side JavaScript/TypeScript development. * Have experience with automated testing frameworks and practices using technologies such as Jest and Mocha. * Understand modern JavaScript development practices, the open-source ecosystem, and contemporary web architecture patterns. * Have experience designing applications for scalability, performance, resilience, accessibility, and maintainability. * Demonstrate strong technical leadership and the ability to mentor and elevate other engineers. * Are comfortable working in an environment based on Agile development methodologies and DevOps principles. * Take ownership, proactively identify problems, and collaborate across teams to develop effective solutions. * Have a strong customer-first mindset and a passion for building intuitive, reliable digital experiences. * Are excited about innovation, automation, and continuous improvement.
