Full Description

The Legal Project Manager will support ACOG’s General Counsel’s office of 4 attorneys and 2 professionals, which provides a broad range of legal support to the organization including: project management, issues triage, operations, advice, negotiating and drafting contracts, board governance, litigation, intellectual property, legal and regulatory compliance and advocacy work, among others. This person will report to the Deputy General Counsel and collaborate with the legal team to develop or retool legal management processes that guide the department’s day-to-day work. This includes assessing the department’s needs, developing standard operating procedures and workflows for various projects, and monitoring and summarizing the progress of various projects to report up to management. All of these activities are document-intensive, requiring attention to detail, sophisticated organizational processes, and continuously updated document creation and retention tools. The Legal Project Manager serves as one of the legal department’s two Legal Project Managers who are the first point of contact and liaison for staff, leadership, Board members and other physician volunteers and must, therefore, have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills and the ability to work creatively, effectively, and respectfully with a broad range of people. Note: This position is considered Hybrid and will need to commute to ACOG's office located in Washington, D.C. Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with legal technology initiatives by working with in-house partners and outside vendors to evaluate, implement and maintain processes and systems that optimize legal team efficiency and excellence, including contract lifecycle, legal intake and knowledge management initiatives. Manage legal, administrative and operations projects to advance legal team initiatives. Oversee legal file management and assist with legal template generation and management across the organization. Serve as the first point of contact for ACOG staff seeking legal advice. Assist legal office with legal, policy and factual research, document drafting and other ad hoc projects as needed. Manage administration of outside counsel relationships, including tracking and review of amicus curiae briefs and maintenance of outside counsel roster. Create and manage legal training with the internal legal and cross-functional business teams. Manage social media and website updates on cases and amicus briefs filed in conjunction with internal Communications staff. Other tasks as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Mission-oriented and committed to rolling up your sleeves and doing what needs to be done in support of the organization’s goals. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills — you’re someone who doesn’t let things fall through the cracks. Strong written and verbal communication — you’re warm, clear, and confident when presenting or interacting with new hires and teammates. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a variety of levels of professional staff and physician volunteers. Comfortable working cross-functionally and adapting quickly in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects, exercise sound professional judgment, and meet deadlines. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software, research skills and familiarity or willingness to experiment with generative AI tools. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required. 5+ years of relevant project management or legal office experience preferred.
