Full Description

About the Role American AI & Automation (AAIA) is seeking a Program Director to lead and own healthcare software programs delivered to government agencies and highly regulated public-sector environments. This role functions as the CEO/COO of healthcare programs under management. You are fully accountable for delivery outcomes, government relationships, compliance posture, vendor performance, and overall program health. You will not manage engineering directly. Instead, you will oversee execution, governance, and accountability, ensuring healthcare systems are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. This role requires someone who understands how healthcare software is procured, governed, audited, and operated, and who can manage complex, multi-stakeholder programs under scrutiny. Program Ownership & Accountability • Own end-to-end delivery of healthcare software programs across their full lifecycle. • Serve as the primary accountable executive to contracting officers, agency leadership, and oversight bodies. • Maintain control of schedules, milestones, budgets, and change management. • Ensure programs meet contractual obligations and performance standards. • Take decisive action when delivery, compliance, or political risk emerges. Government & Executive Stakeholder Management • Act as AAIA’s senior representative to health agencies, public health departments, and oversight entities. • Lead executive briefings, governance meetings, and formal program reviews. • Translate agency objectives, regulations, and constraints into executable program plans. • Manage expectations across agencies, subcontractors, and internal leadership. • Build long-term trust with public-sector healthcare stakeholders. Compliance, Risk & Governance • Ensure programs operate in full alignment with healthcare regulations and procurement rules. • Oversee audits, reviews, and reporting requirements. • Anticipate regulatory, operational, and reputational risks. • Ensure documentation, approvals, and controls are maintained throughout program execution. • Maintain readiness for inspections, investigations, or legislative inquiries. Vendor & Delivery Oversight • Direct and hold subcontractors accountable for delivery performance. • Coordinate with the Technical Director to ensure technical execution supports program commitments. • Resolve vendor conflicts and performance issues decisively. • Align legal, compliance, finance, and operations teams around program needs. • Establish repeatable delivery and governance processes for healthcare software contracts. Leadership & Scaling • Act as the executive owner for healthcare software programs as volume scales. • Mentor project managers and program staff assigned to healthcare engagements. • Contribute to capture strategy and proposal reviews for healthcare-related opportunities. • Help shape AAIA’s long-term healthcare software delivery model. • Ensure lessons learned are institutionalized across programs. Required Experience • 10+ years of experience leading government or regulated healthcare programs. • Proven track record owning large, multi-year healthcare software or systems programs. • Deep familiarity with public-sector procurement, compliance, and audit environments. • Experience managing vendors or systems integrators on complex contracts. • Strong executive presence with public officials and oversight bodies. • Demonstrated ability to lead under regulatory and political pressure. Strong Plus • Experience with public health, benefits administration, or healthcare data systems. • Prior accountability for programs under audit or heightened scrutiny. • Experience stabilizing or recovering complex healthcare initiatives. • Background in operations, program management, or executive leadership roles. Compensation & Structure • Equity participation aligned with healthcare division performance. • Performance-based compensation tied to delivery outcomes and contract growth. • Option to transition into a salary + equity + performance model as scale increases. Why AAIA • Executive-level ownership without bureaucratic drag. • Opportunity to lead healthcare systems that directly affect public outcomes. • Clear authority paired with strong technical leadership. • Ability to shape how healthcare software is delivered at scale. If you have run healthcare programs where failure was not an option and accountability rested squarely on you, this role is designed for that level of responsibility. Applicants should submit examples of programs owned, contracts managed, and outcomes delivered. Titles matter less than accountability and results. Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract Pay: $100.00 - $700.00 per hour Benefits: • Flexible schedule Work Location: Remote
