Alteryx is searching for an Engineering Manager to lead our Engineering Insights & FinOps function. This position is remote-friendly. This team is responsible for: Delivering high-quality operational dashboards and engineering health metrics Providing executive-level visibility into engineering performance Tracking adoption of internal platforms, services, and best practices Driving FinOps excellence across engineering This role combines data, engineering operations, and financial accountability. The ideal candidate comes from a strong FinOps background and has experience building data-driven engineering organizations. POSITION OVERVIEW: Your mission is to create transparency, accountability, and financial discipline across Engineering. You will: Enable engineering managers to understand the health of their services Provide executives with clear operational and financial insights Establish FinOps best practices to optimize cloud and infrastructure spend Ensure engineering investments are measurable and aligned with business outcomes PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Lead the Engineering Insights Function Manage and grow a team of data-focused ICs (SQL, Python, BI) Define and standardize engineering health metrics Oversee the design and delivery of dashboards (Superset) Ensure data quality, consistency, and trustworthiness Turn metrics into actionable insights 2. Own FinOps Strategy & Execution Lead cloud cost visibility and allocation initiatives Implement cost attribution models across teams and services Define cost KPIs per product, service, and environment Drive cost optimization initiatives with engineering leaders Establish budgeting, forecasting, and variance tracking processes Partner with Finance to align engineering spend with company targets 3. Executive & Cross-Functional Alignment Provide executive-level dashboards covering: Service health Operational efficiency Cost trends Adoption of platforms and standards Work closely with: Platform and Infrastructure teams DevOps / SRE Finance Product leadership Align on metric definitions and governance 4. Operational Excellence Build a consistent framework for: Service reliability metrics Change velocity and delivery metrics Incident impact tracking Platform adoption tracking Identify systemic inefficiencies or financial risks Drive continuous improvement through data REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. FinOps Background Proven experience leading FinOps initiatives in a cloud-native environment Strong understanding of: Cloud cost models (AWS, GCP, Azure) Cost allocation strategies Unit economics for engineering services Budgeting and forecasting processes Experience partnering with Finance and executive leadership 2. Engineering & Data Leadership Experience managing technical teams Strong understanding of engineering operations and service health metrics Familiarity with SQL, data pipelines, and BI tooling (Superset, Looker, Tableau, etc.) Ability to translate complex technical and financial data into clear narratives 3. Leadership & Communication Structured thinker with strong prioritization skills Able to influence engineering leaders without direct authority Comfortable presenting to executive stakeholders Strong written and verbal communication WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE: Within the first 6–12 months: Clear, trusted dashboards used by engineering managers Executive visibility into engineering operational performance Accurate cost attribution across services and teams Measurable improvements in cloud cost efficiency Adoption metrics that inform platform investment decisions Long term: Engineering operates with financial accountability Cloud spend scales predictably with business growth Platform investments are measurable and optimized Leadership makes decisions based on trusted operational and financial insights WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS: As we scale, visibility and financial discipline become critical. COMPENSATION: Alteryx is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation is determined by several factors, including but not limited to relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location. The salary range for this role in the United States is $136,600 - $177,050. Bonus payouts are based on individual and company performance.
