Job description: Hybrid 3 days in office/2 days at home Shift: 9:00am – 5:00pm, 1 hour for lunch Work week: 35 hours per week Pay Type: Exempt ROLE PURPOSE The Freight Forwarding Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of international and logistics freight forwarding. The position leads and manages a team of freight forwarding specialists to ensure efficient handling of import and exports shipments through drayage, rail, air and ocean transportation. Responsibilities • Oversee and support end-to-end freight forwarding operations, ensuring specialists follow the department procedures accurately, while independently managing operations for assigned customer accounts. • Monitor customer service quality, assist in resolving escalated logistics issues, and ensure timely responses. • Maintain strong relationships with service providers and assist specialists in resolving coordination challenges. • Review and approve negotiated freight rates, ensuring alignment with budget and cost-efficiency goals. • Audit data entry and documentation for accuracy and provide training or feedback to improve performance. • Ensure team compliance with global trade regulation, and compliance requirements. • Track overall shipment performance, and ensure timely updates are communicated to clients and internal teams. • Support and guide specialists in resolving complex shipment issues or escalations. • Identify and implement process improvements and encourage team contributions to enhance operational efficiency. • Review billing and payment accuracy and support profit margin tracking for assigned accounts. Prepare invoices as needed. • Process payments with various vendors, carriers, and overseas agents. • Ensure SOPs are created and maintained as well as verify that team members are cross-trained for coverage during absences. • Ensure team take actions on outstanding tasks within the defined timeframe. • Manage and train Forwarding operational team to achieve company and departmental goals. • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback. • Additional duties as assigned Qualifications: • 5 years of experience in freight forwarding that includes international export experience. • 2 years of supervisory experience. • 2+ years of Cargowise experience required. REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complex logistics operations. • Familiarity with various transportation modes (air, ocean, road, rail) and their associated documentation requirements. • Strong leadership, team management, and decision-making skills. • Ability to oversee detailed logistics processes while ensuring team adherence to operational standards. • Skilled in coaching staff on relationship-building techniques and handling escalated client concerns. • Proficiency in logistics industry-specific software and tools for tracking shipments, managing customs documentation, and analyzing data. • Strong knowledge of global trade regulations, including FMC. • Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite. • Customer-centric mindset with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
