Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: New York, NY Position Type: Full Time Education Level: High School Salary Range: $26.70 - $26.70 Hourly Job Category: Facilities Description Department Facilities Reports To Operations Manager Education Requirement High School Diploma or Equivalent FLSA Non-Exempt Salary $26.70/hour Schedule Full-Time 35 hours per week ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW The Ali Forney Center (AFC) is dedicated to protecting LGBTQ+ youth from the harms of homelessness and empowering them with the tools needed to live independently. Founded in 2002, AFC provides comprehensive services, including housing, healthcare, and educational support to over 2,000 youth annually. AFC's mission is to create an affirming and supportive environment where LGBTQ+ youth can thrive. POSITION OVERVIEW The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of Ali Forney Center sites, including residential, administrative, clinical, and mixed-use sites. This role ensures that all facilities are safe, clean, and functioning properly, providing a comfortable and supportive environment for clients and staff. The Maintenance Technician will perform repairs, routine maintenance tasks, and respond to maintenance requests. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Routine Maintenance and Repairs: • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: • Plumbing repairs (e.g., unclogging drains, fixing leaks). • Electrical repairs (e.g., replacing light bulbs, resetting breakers). • HVAC maintenance (e.g., cleaning filters, checking thermostats, troubleshooting pilot lights). • General carpentry and painting. • Assembling furniture and equipment. • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and clients. • Troubleshoot to resolve maintenance issues efficiently, recommend involvement of licensed contractors as needed. • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs when necessary. Grounds Maintenance: • Ensure that all assigned facilities are clean and well-maintained. • Assist with trash removal as needed. • Assist with snow removal as needed. Inventory and Supplies: • Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment. • Request supplies and materials as needed. • Coordinate the pickup, transport, and distribution of goods and supplies, including in-kind donations. • Ensure that storage areas are organized and clean. Communication and Reporting: • Communicate effectively with staff, clients, and the Operations Manager. • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs. • Report any maintenance issues or concerns to the Operations Manager. • Respond to facility-related requests from staff and clients. • Attend weekly staff, client, and resident meetings as required. • Attend weekly supervision with direct manager. Qualifications and Benefits QUALIFICATIONS Competencies • Conduct monthly inspections and functional checks of fire safety systems (e.g., extinguishers, alarms), ensuring compliance with NYS fire safety codes, applicable funding requirements, and other regulatory standards. • Attend required safety and compliance training, as well as other professional developmental training. Shift Coverage • Travel between assigned sites as needed. • Remain on call for after hour emergencies when required. • Ensure sites are kept to the highest standards. Required Qualifications • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. • Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks. • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, at least 50lbs. • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Ali Forney Center and the LGBTQ+ community. • Ability to work in a fast paced 24/7 environment. Preferred Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance or a related field. • Experience working in a residential or social service setting. • Experience with building maintenance in multiple locations. • Certifications in relevant trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
