Lead and manage capital projects for process and packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment, including design, installation, commissioning, and cross-department coordination.
5+ years project engineering experience in food or confectionery plants, knowledge of food-related equipment design, ability to manage capital projects and read/modify engineering drawings.
Description UNDERSTANDING With a strong understanding of project engineering, this position will study design, implement projects, and improve efficiencies on processes and equipment. This position will work closely with all departments ensuring projects meet department requirements. The Project Engineer will be a key player organizing and leading departments on new projects and improvements in the plant. They will lead equipment installations, start-ups, commissioning, and site acceptance tests. This person will lead the coordination between their projects and operations, maintenance, and scheduling. RESPONSIBILITIES • Define and develop project objectives to meet company goals. • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, performance standards, completing technical studies and preparing cost analyses • Responsible for project completeness from development to final start up and close out, including project development and approval, budgeting, project scopes, project schedules, project bidding, managing all contractor trades, change order processes, managing all drawing and equipment documentation, defining start up and commissioning teams with other departments, controlling invoicing, and project close out. • Evaluating projects as they may relate to cost savings in materials and/or required resources to run processes and provide easy to understand project summaries. • Evaluate engineering methods, product requirements, sourcing technology to meet needs. • Upgrade current systems and processes with new technology and equipment. • Create and maintain process flow, P&IDs, engineering standards and documents. • Assist in shutdowns and start-ups when needed/requested. • Work directly with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, and Production to provide input on new installations and facility upgrades. • And other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS • Experience and exposure in food related environments managing small to large capital project • Must have knowledge of food requirements as they relate to equipment designs • Knowledge of process and packaging components, ideals, and their functions • Previous knowledge or managing new capital projects directly related to process and packaging lines • Managing plant process and packaging line upgrades • Ability to read drawings, modify and create drawings, work within provided drawing systems • Ability to work in project management software systems • Knowledge of plant utilities and requirements for new equipment and existing equipment • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, chemical, PLC, and process systems as they relate to new and existing projects • Travel may be required on occasion sourcing new equipment and equipment testing. • 5 years or more of project engineering experience within a food environment and/or confectionery plant EDUCATION • High School Diploma or G.E.D is required • Bachelor's degree in Engineering • Or equivalent experience within an Engineering Department for minimum of 5 years
