About AirPlus AirPlus International, a German headquartered corporate payments provider owned by SEB Bank, is seeking an experienced Legal & Compliance Manager to serve as Legal Counsel for its U.S. subsidiary. In this high-impact role, you’ll lead all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the U.S. and Canada. You’ll act as the designated AML Officer and Data Protection Coordinator, while also supporting licensing, governance, and commercial negotiations. This is a unique opportunity to be the legal backbone of a fast-moving, globally connected payment business. While the role is ideally hybrid from our Alexandria, VA office, we’re open to remote candidates based elsewhere in the United States for the right fit. Role Description Legal Counsel • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to senior management. • Independently manage all legal matters for the U.S. entity, including regulatory, anti-money laundering, and data protection. • Serve as the functional lead for a paralegal function. • Review, draft, and update internal, external, and customer documentation, agreements, and contracts • Negotiate contracts with potential customers and partners. • Provide legal support for licensing and registration requirements across all relevant U.S. states and Canada. • Provide legal and regulatory support for business activities in US and Canada. AML Officer & Program Oversight • Act as designated AML Officer and Data Protection Coordinator. • Maintain and oversee AML and Data Protection programs including adapting and drafting AML policies and procedures. • Coordinate training for managers and employees as required. • Ensure compliance with all AML-related regulations and internal standards. • Oversee AML-related audits, ensuring thorough preparation, execution, and follow-up to maintain compliance and mitigate risk. Regulatory • Safeguard and maintain licensing and registration requirements. • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk. • Develop and implement corrective action plans and provide general guidance and reporting. • Participate in regulatory compliance projects, including policy development and implementation. • Support regulatory aspects of product launches and white-labeling initiatives. • Collaborate with other departments to direct compliance and regulatory issues to appropriate channels for investigation and resolution. • Develop, periodically review, and update standards of conduct, policies, and work instructions to ensure ongoing relevance. • Ensure the annual submission of audit reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets in coordination with HQ specialist departments.
