Salary Range: $51,821 to $67,371 (w/LOC) Series/PP/Grade: GS-0081-07 Telework is not available This is a term position Qualifications In this position you will serve as a serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in airfield, structural firefighting, crash-rescue, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician/Basic Life Support, to respond to the presence or potential release of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release, and to conduct performance of noninvasive emergency medical procedures to provide Basic Life Support (BLS). Performs hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis. Performs Basic Life Support. Performs crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great. Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Requirements and Qualifications (not limited to): U.S. Citizenship Obtain & maintain Security clearance Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program. The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48 hour on /72 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall. This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing (IAW HQ-USAF letter dated 29 Jan 90). This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. The employee may be required to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be required. Position requires the ability to discern color, contras, and depth. Employee is required to be Department of Defense certified Firefighter I and Firefighter II, HAZMAT technician (under NFPA standards adopted by DOD) and possess State and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) – Basic Life Support (EMT-B) certification. KSAs • Knowledge of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy. 2. Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions. 3. Knowledge of Basic Life Support techniques and protocols; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. 4. Skill in operating communications equipment. 5. Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift and carry heavy loads. 6. Ability to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply Basic Life Support techniques and protocols.
